Ill give you honest opinions backing up my feedback here.

Your sprites have okay shape, maybe flesh them out a bit better next time though.

Shading really needs work. Usually when working with guns that have a camo on them, shading is top priority. Since the guns are so small, camo detail is not really needed. Just change the color of the weapon in the appropriate spots.

Also try to use more pixel clusters. You'd be surprised how things look so much better with pixel clusters.

Sprites must be 'paletted' before they can be used in CC, here's how to do it in GIMP

If you use paint, make sure you're using Windows XP paint, after that to palette a image simply drop the CC palette into the image and save it as a .bmp.
After that the image should be in palette and you can crop your gun out.

Probably a simpler way of doing this is to simply copy-paste any sprite already in CC and paste your gun into that, since it is already in palette.

I'm pretty sure you guys are both thinking a 256* colour bitmap, but as it so happens, just saving it as a 256 colour bitmap wont solve anything.
In fact you must palette the sprite.

I can't, for the love of meth! Get the re-textured head to work D: I've tried just about everything. Perhaps someone could shed some light on my problem?

And yes. I have tried that "Copy sprite and paste it over the Palette. Still no go.

Perhaps I'm not using the Palette right? What I do is paste the vanilla Coalition heavy head beside the CC Palette then go from there.

(I Have Windows 8.1 and use the regular Paint program on there)

His skin looks weird :P Was trying to add some diversity to the game :E

Windows 7 paint and newer don't work for the copy-paste palette solution.

You need to use Windows XP paint or older.

Probably a stupid question but is there a guide/general helpful information on detailing sprites?
I can make sprites quite easily, the only issue I have is detailing them. And It is quite troublesome as it is halting progress on my mod. ;_;

Hey, I made a small tutorial on how to sprite a simple gun the way I do it.

I'm thinking of adding this mecha into my faction A.R.C

Just wondering what kind of things you think i could change?

Also how do you guys usually sprite the animated legs?

One word:

Contrast.

Image

While the shape and colors of the sprite are good, without contrast it seems dull and one-dimensional

The trick to producing good contrast is to not be afraid of using darker colors and outlines. It can do a lot for your sprite as it gives depth and readability.

As for animated legs go, what I usually do is take the original sprite that would be the middle point of the animated leg. Then I would choose where I want the foot to attach to the leg and put a brightly colored pixel there (alternatively something that's easily seen or stands out). Next I would move that pixel to where it would go next in the animation of the leg and resprite the leg accordingly, up until I have all the frames that I would need for the animation of the leg.

That looks much more defined.

I'll try that next time coops! Half the time I'm conflicted because I tend to sometimes use too much dark outlines.

Okay so, it's a known fact that I'm horrible at spriting. Once in a while I feel motivated enough, after reading a couple tutorials for it, but I just suck so bad at it.

Anyway, to the point. For the modding contest, I want to do a futuristic looking carbine. Code is perfect and stuff, only problem is the sprite.

I'm loosely basing myself on this design, but I'm butchering it non-stop with my awful artsy skills.

Image

I like the siloutte/size, but I just can't nail the rest. To the left is the gun and the mag, to the right it's the gun with the mag.

Anyway so, how can I make it not suck?
