I saw the glow pack in the modding templates thread and figured I could create some pretty neat glows and/or animations. (mostly glows) You see, I am experienced at Photoshop but have several questions as to how to make glows. I have attempted to create glows before but they came out as funky colors in game. Do glows need to be in palette? (hopefully not :| )

With a large pocket of spare time coming up and the ability to contribute potentially awesome glows I guess I could use a glow "coach".

No , glows dont need to be in palette , and their background is black.

Oh thank...Data! I was very worried there for a second. And a black background, got it. Anything thats crucial?

Just that the background is black and the glow must be a 24 bit (RGB that is, 256 colors for each channel, R, B, and G) bitmap.

For whom may be interested: Here are some quick sample glows I made along with one custom high detail glow.

Those ripple glows may be interesting indeed (perhaps for some sort of gas bomb), though I would make sure the high detail one doesn't cut off on the edges. Cutting would be noticable ingame.

Duelly noted Duh. I can also go about creating animations quite easily. manipulating groups of pixels allows for some very interesting results.

Edit: Almost forgot, is there some place where I can put all of my future glows and animations? Something like a community storage area?

If you enough glows i'm sure you could post your glows in a thread here.

You could try the sprite dump or art dump threads...

Honestly unless you need a really specific type of glow, it's so much easier to rip glows/effects off spriter resource pages or off google images. There are literally jillions of glows you can use.

The easiest ones to find are rips from fighting games (M.U.G.E.N. I find is best since it's pretty much a huge compilation).

The touhou fighter games are a rich source as well. And ready to use too.
