There are several ways. I prefer to get the frames by holding down print screen, opening them in GIMP, then saving them after optimizing and cropping. Someone needs to remake the GIF tutorial that got deleted when audio and art forums got merged.

Everyone Holds down the PrntScrn Button for the duration
of the moment that needs to be gif-etized, which then exports
all of those individual frames to the CC folder.

But there are many different ways to turn those into a .gif

Here's how to do it (the best way, in my opinion)

1. Open up VirtualDub (Google it), select File >
Open Video File (Check "Automatically Load Linked Segments")
> Select 1st Frame of the soon to be .gif from the CC folder.

2. That loads all the frames into Virtual Dub for Giffing.
You then go to Video > Filter > Add and then select the null transform filter and press "OK".
Then click "Cropping" in the bottom-right of the same window, and Crop it.

3. After that just File > Export > Animated Gif. That's it!

Jasc Animation Shop plus a batch converter of your choice is good for quick GIFs.

could someone make a lua-scripted screen-cap maker?

it would just have to slow the game down until the timescale is below 0.5X and export a frame, every other frame (to avoid lag).

you could even use the console to start and stop the screendumping. it would guarantee 1:1 timescale.

Awesome tutorial zalo, that should be a sticky (if it isn't already). I didn't know about the crop function in Vdub. That saves me from having to do batch jobs in irfanview! I wonder if there's a way to get Vdub to optimize the GIF as well, if it doesn't by default.

You don't have to hold printscreen to get screenshots, in fact that's a very inefficient method when you could just use animget as mentioned. Animget saves images to a temp buffer in RAM, so you don't get as lagged when you are recording. And you don't have to hold down printscreen. Isn't that reason enough to use it? (Unless you don't have very much RAM)

Im trying to make videos instead, but for some reason FRAPS doesnt seem to recognize CC right now.
A couple days back it worked after I punched the monitor, but now it suddenly stopped detecting CC.
It does however, detect all other games I have like Deus Ex, Soldat ect.

Btw if youre wanting to make videos instead of gifs, use fraps to record and windows movie maker or even sony vegas to edit them. Its really fun and is much more cooler than simple gifs.

Now I'm gonna go ready my falcon punch and hit this monitor once mo... *

you can use GIMP too.
file > open as layers (open all the shots you want) > tweak, crop, whatever > save as .gif
