Post subject:  [FAQ] Fixing Corrupted Settings.ini

A random bug has appeared where a certain configuration/settings file is truncated by the game.

Be careful never to give anyone your copy of Settings.ini if it has your registration information in it.

I have a few solutions for this problem, for B23 PC. I'll start with the simplest, but the simplest also is the most destructive; you'll lose the most of your settings.

Solution A: Replace Settings.ini. -Simple-
This will reset your registration, control, and display settings!
1) Make sure you have your registration information and write it down. It can be found in settings.ini if you've otherwise lost it.
2) Run Unregister.bat to properly unregister without needing to run the game
3) Rename Settings.ini, which is located in the Base.rte folder. "Settings2.ini" would do nicely.
4) Put the Settings.ini provided below in Base.rte. This copy of the file is set to default settings, unregistered
3) Run Cortex Command
4) Reconfigure registration, control, and display settings as necessary.

Solution B: Reset controls entirely. -Easy-
This will reset all players' control settings!
1) Back up Base.rte/Settings, this can easily be done by copying it, renaming it, and pasting.
2) Open Base.rte/Settings.ini
3) Find the "P1Scheme = InputScheme" line. If it has also been removed by the truncation, refer to solution A.
4) Delete that line and all lines below. Save the file.
5) Run Cortex Command
6) If you've failed in following these instructions and your settings.ini is still messed up, refer to solution A.
7) Reconfigure your control settings as necessary.

Solution C: Duplicate the missing lines. -Complicated-
This will only reset player four control settings partially!
1) Back up Base.rte/Settings, this can easily be done by copying it, renaming it, and pasting.
2) Open Base.rte/Settings.ini
3) Find "P4Scheme = InputScheme", if it is not in the file, refer to Solution B.
4) Go to the end of the file, and take note of the line that has been interrupted by the truncation.
5) Find the equivalent of that line for player 3, it should be between "P3Scheme = InputScheme" and "P4Scheme = InputScheme"
6) Select the player three equivalent line, and all lines that are below it and above "P4Scheme = InputScheme". Be sure to include all tabs of selected lines.
7) Copy the selected text.
8) Go to the end of the file, delete the entire interrupted line, including any of its tabs.
9) Paste the selection to the end of the file and save.
10) Run Cortex Command
11) If the problem is not solved and you've failed in following these instructions, refer to Solution B.
12) Reset player 4 control setting as is necessary. Assuming you ever play 4 player

I've done all these before many times, and they all consistently work.
