Post I'm still playing this game...
I've been playing cortex command on and off since the 1.0 release (a few hundred hours of play). I'm super pleased with it... I recently installed some mods and I am quite pleased with those as well. Good work everyone, I appreciate the effort.

Yea.... I was reading through the forums and it made me super depressed as most of the feedback was negative. I don't think enough people appreciate what an achievement this game is technically:
-Deformable terrain
-Multiple actors with true independent appendages
-A quirky but solid physics engine. (some would argue at the solidity of the engine, but it is what it is)
-Piles of bloody limbs and robot torsos.
-
All that, and it runs on my Toshiba P205D which cannot even run terraria.

Yes, the game needs polish.
Yes, the game needs more game.
Yes, the game need some optimization.
Yes, the game needs more....
Some key bindings for the radial menus....

But I want to slap the mouths of people who talk crap on this game, as it's just ignorant of what it takes to make a game like this.
I do, however, think the developer should release the source to the community if they are unwilling or unable to create new content. The money that's going to be made off this game in its current state has been made. Maybe it's time for the developers to let their baby go to public school. It's easy for me to say, as it's not my creation, but there has to be a reasonable alternative to just doing nothing with what has been created. First game to sell its source to the community maybe?

It's sad to see a game this good abandoned by all but the most hardcore fans.

It's still being developed, Data's just really, really slow at releasing progress reports.

I suppose updates are what takes the sting out of a long release. Dwarf fortress is about a year into a long dry spell, but the weekly or monthly update really makes one feel like the developer cares about the people that they motivate and inspire (Even if it is just a post about a cats birthday or mild illness).
It seems that when a game is good enough that it has a solid community, it's no longer entertainment, it's an organism. Interactions, emotions, social hierarchy's, production, immune system, symbiosis, co-dependence... All these systems need to be fed and given direction or they turn on themselves, or die. Probably a bit of a dramatic comparison, but it seems to be true.

I agree, though I think many have legitimate criticisms. I have played many hours of Cortex Command but it seems like the faster my PC gets, the slower the game runs, and it's reached a point where it is unplayable. I LOVED the game when it actually ran well.

I guess so. I'm more into Firearms than PCs, so I didn't asked him before.

Beyond two cores CC will likely see no improvement, as it has a single threaded physics engine. The speedup between single core and dual+ core is due to the operating system taking other processes off the core that CC is running on, giving it it's own dedicated core.
The only thing that RAM helps is having enough space to prevent hard disk caching, which slows down memory stores and retrieves, so beyond having enough, RAM doesn't help at all.
CC doesn't even use the graphics card so there's no reason to talk about those.

I still want to polish up cc metagame and add the workshop integration.. eventually release the source too so people can poke around with it themselves
