Post Mods on the main page?
Some people who visit the main page don't get introduced to mods, I think there should be a top three of the "best mods" on the main page. or maybe a separate page.

yes?
no?

Good idea, at the beginning i donĀ“t find the forum or the mods. I find one stupid mod with Google.
But to the TOP3. How we find out what the best mod is? Poll at every mod, or what?

Yeah, trying to establish any mods as being better inevitably results in flamefests. People have different opinions, and there'll always be someone complaining.

I agree with making the Forums link on the frontpage more noticeable though.

Just have someone write a little code or something to randomly pick, say, 5 mods. Every week it changes, and the same mod cannot be up there twice in a row.

Not really, because then they could be introduced to shitty mods.

..anndd? Jesus you guys act like bad mods will infect you. My first mod was terrible, but if it wasn't for the suggestions and criticism I wouldn't have made another, and another etc etc.. Sweeping bad mods into a corner like they're some unsightly scum is regressive towards getting new modders out there.

If an idea like this does go through, I want it to be indiscriminate.

if the modDB starts getting good, then link it to that.

The modDB can't upload half the mods. I wouldn't be able to upload even HALF of the Tek Troopers into it.

I say make a code or something that randomly picks 5 mods and displays them on the page, and the 5 mods change every time the page is refreshed. How's that?

Can't say it's a great idea at the moment. I mean, what about mods that don't even work at all any more? There are way too many mods that don't work for B22 that would get picked easily. I think we should hold off on this until either the ModDB gets upgraded or until there's a way to group specific mods that work. Also, the archives shouldn't be classified at all as a mod. I think that the 5 most recent mods should work because it wouldn't bring in old mods, plus, if a mod gets necro'd, it makes it all the faster that a moderator would see it.

That's so easy and very possible!

No just kidding that'd require WJ to dig through PHPBB's coding to figure out the methods it uses to display topics and then rip that apart to display it SOMEWHERE on the main page. Topics with no content, mods that aren't even mods, etc would be put up there. It'd suck.

There isn't even a good place to put it.

You want the ModDB to be upgraded? What do you want to see there?

The ModDB needs to be able to have a MUCH higher max file size. That, and a little more user-friendly interface.

Or we could let people register on the main page and upload mods to it. The site could then have a script that would randomly display five of the uploaded mods, thereby introducing people to them.

It's not hard to do.
