Make necroing a more serious offense. Seriously.
It just keeps happening. Moron after moron after moron reviving dead threads for no reason, contributing nothing new or exciting, and just being generally irritating. I've completely given up on scolding them, telling them to not do it again. Regardless, even when I do, most of the time they continue necroing anyway! What I ask is that we take this way more seriously. It's annoying, rude, and just bad etiquette and it should stop. At the least giving a warning or a temporary ban for people who do it should work.

If there's a problem with current forumites we'll start being more harsh, but most necros are performed by new people who pop in for all of five minutes to download mods. More harsh punishments wouldn't stop anything, because the people performing the "crime" don't come back anyway. And if they're necroing in the first place, they're not reading the rules, which means they won't read warnings about harsh punishments either.

I've also noticed what Miggles says, and I've been reporting those threads. But could we at least have a reason labeled "Necro" or something?

Re: Make necroing a more serious offense. Seriously.
Bringing back an old topic is not, alone, a problem, so it doesn't make any sense to have it as a report reason. It's only a problem if the post is of poor quality and/or doesn't contribute anything to the topic. If anything, it just makes us scrutinize the post a bit more, and not necessarily give a warning outright. Why should there be a rule against it? It's completely arbitrary, and all it does is encourage reposting of topics and confusion regarding how old is "too old."

This is exactly why I hit the report button and move on, then silently at anyone who bothers to respond. If rule #1 of necroing is "don't do it", rule #2 should be "don't reply to it".

Brb modifying rules to give 3 day bans to people who reply to a necro post with "necro, stop that"
