Ah, good times with the old webrings and sites linking to other sites. Before search engines were so prominent and you were your own 'search engine' and SEO(serch engine optimization'). BBSs were more useful, too, in light of this. A time where the net had many users-has-collective-hive points more often. Art shrines were awesome with Anipike being a personal favorite for a hub-style site design linking to such things. Geocities had crazy personal user sites. Rather than have specific site architectures, user just had a domain name and used it how they wished. My AT&T line had such a nice dial-up sound rather than the modem static that was so token in the day. And Sheesh, Flash apps were so rare!

Every else was just a find like when Cnet and I think the budding Gametunnel had so many indie artillery games. And playing with Escape Velocity Nova. BIG one was when I reading about the very first Firefox in Wired magazine and messing with it on a campus. The idea of the free browser was a holy grail at that moment. wish I knew of internet relay chat, I always ended up using Yahoo IM or some asynchronous communication

Much like the old games were you drew your own map, the older net made you apply yourself and was fun for it.

I pledge allegiance to the ghost of the english language. Man, what a trip. I should go see if my stuff is still there.

as a preteen it was all about gaiaonline and deviantart for me, i also used squiby a little bit, ha, those things eventually led to iscribble and chatlands. i was also obsessed with anything pet/animal related. around age ten i would play neopets every single day after school. i remember my favorite part being making pet pages, i would add music and horribly unflattering text boxes to them.

when i was even younger than that i would just go on pokemon sprite resources and save the images and use to make my own pokemon battles in ms paint and play with my sisters. i would also add them as items on our old win'98 dell and make little habitats for them on the desktop. i finally stopped doing this when i got an actual pet. and does anybody remember that bunnyherolabs site? i can't believe it's still around, i used to play with those virtual pets when i was, like, seven.

all good times.

neopets

♥♥♥♥ hell oh my god neopets
that ♥♥♥♥ was my life force
i remember that one scary thing in the dino land where there was a cave that gave you like 7 warnings to go back but i ♥♥♥♥ tanked it and then this screaming pterodactyl came out and i flipped my ♥♥♥♥ and probably screamed
the worst part was i didnt know how to get back so that stupid ♥♥♥♥ pterodactyl ran its goddamn beaky mouth for like 5 minutes before i decided to just close the tab
good times

also on the agenda of pokemon i used to make those pokemon splice shits or whatever in mspaint where you take multiple pokemon and make a new one and recolor it with this weird trick with the eraser or something??
i was pretty ok at it actually and it was a load of fun
maybe i should try that again like
just to practice

oh my god pokemon sprite splices, if you were able to salvage any of them you should share
i did stuff like that too, like i would use the pokemon backgrounds and click and drag characters through.. and set up battles and do stuff like that with my sisters.. i basically tried to recreate the games in mspaint WHAT A HUGE WASTE OF TIME
i also used to painstakingly make recolours of official sonic art............. MY DARK PAST. theyre all on my old desktop or i would seriously post them here for everyone to laugh at

oh my god i just found my old squiby account and was able to login

i should find more old art and post it here IF YOU GUYS THINK YOU CAN STOMACH IT

That's way better than I could do now.
Anyways, all of those shitty splices are on a computer that is broken and was sold off for $100 years ago. I have no idea where it is now, if it's even in someone's ownership. It's probably in a scrap heap.

My first web community I visited seriously was sciforums. I still check in every now and then. Gave me a good window into the world of conspiracy theorists and pseudoscience and the mocking and debunking thereof, which was fun.

The first pre-release hype game forum I joined was probably supreme commander, shame it didn't live up to TA. The first clan I joined was for 1942, sadly it died when 2 was released.

4chan is 10 today. srsly wow.
