Am I the only canadian who doesnt give a rats ass about the olympics? The opening ceremony didnt even work and they charged people 2 grand a ticket, the cost has put the british colombia and vancouver government in major debt, screwing my hometown in the behind with a rusty iron pole, and theres not even enough snow there for christs sake! Also Macdonalds is the mainstream food supplier for the olympics, like wtf guys?

You'll make up all that cost with tourist revenue.

The Olympics are generally speaking an economic boon to any country, territory/state, and municipality it visits.

Do they cost a lot in the short-run? Yes.
Is that money made back with a return on investment? Yes.

i come to agree. my views of the olympics are based upon them as a generalised worldwide sporting event, not as this kind of mass-produced money-suckers.

Tonnes of Canadians don't care about the Olympics. I only watched the three minutes of the opening ceremony I did because I forgot to install LBP on my second PS3.

Our stupid free-to-air channel covering it is provided by the bastards at sky, so we get two times as many advertisements about paying up, and coverage of half as much sport. I don't watch much telly anyway, so it usually doesn't bother me much, but they cut freestyle skiing in half with giant ad breaks, so I gave up on watching it. <_<

Promoting flaming and promoting crushing a moderator's attempts to edit someone's posts is very different.
