  Home Chemistry?I found a few chemicals from old chemistry sets yesterday, t's got me interested in home chemistry. As for supplies the only really goood place on the internet is United Nuclear. But they don't ship too the UK
 .Most other scientific supplies companies specialise in real orders for labs etc. not individuals who want small orders. Does anyone know of any sites that have similar things to united nuclear?(That are based in europe/UK or ship internationally) |

Re: Home Chemistry? Ooh, I know this guy, Achmed, who is really interested in home chemistry. He never seems to have any eyebrows, though, and he's always mumbling something about infinite mercy in paradise...

Just so long as you remember that only I get to make fun of brown people because I am the only brown person on this forum. Unless someone else is more brown than me, in which case, I pass the torch. And this recipe for thermite- Code: Ingredients: 8 grams iron oxide powder (rust; a common paint pigment) 3 grams aluminum (again, a common paint pigment) Magnesium ribbon (a very hot fuse) Mix the powders together in a cast-iron or steel pan/pot that you don't need anymore. Stick the magnesium ribbon in as you would put in a fuse. Light the ribbon on the far end with a nice, long stick, so that you don't get burned. Observe the pot melting from a safe distance (run like hell) and cackle madly (optional). |

Re: Home Chemistry? do not stare directly at the magnesium ribbon whilst it is burning as it could cause permanent damage to your eyes.
edit: it is VERY bright, you should probably know this if your english, in my experience a lot of experiments get done involving a lot of different chemicals. |
