Alright mother ♥♥♥♥, this ♥♥♥♥'s important. The Internet is once again under attack by ignorant honkies, and it's up to everyone to stop them from suceeding. Oh, I also have an infographic by the kind people at americancensorship.org

If you go to google 'demand progress', you can subscribe to a form where just about every week you can vote against this.
It's quickly growing to be a very large opponent of Internet Censorship. Hundreds of thousands of people are opposing the new laws.

Much of the American population vs. a bunch of shithead congressmen doesn't add up in their favor very well.

SOPA is currently looking unlikely to pass (due to massive call + mail + email flood), Protect IP hasn't gone to the Senate floor yet (though it's going to sometime this week).
Just an update on the above infographic.

When I heard this bill might be passed I really started to panic.
A horrible feeling I've never felt before. Like I actually feared my country, and wanted to leave.
I still sometimes think about it, and it just makes me even more distressed.
I even thought about violent protest. Woohoo

violent protest is literally never a good idea

Is there anyway for me to assist? I do not live in the United States, so I wont be affected by any legislation.

Don't want to linkspam, especially since I don't say much here but this is a pretty easy way to at least do something about it:
http://avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet/?fp
And Avaaz has done a lot of great things so I'd recommend joining them anyway.
Also, we'll probably be affected by it outside of the US, to quote from the link I just posted "And, because so much of the Internet's hosts and hardware are located in the US, their blacklist would clamp down on the free web for all of us."
So here's hoping this doesn't go through.

Specially this.

Censorship isn't a good idea. Or maybe it is, but this sounds very sctrict.

Dammit 'murican government, y u made of faggolithic dumbstone? This is a horrible bill and it will hurt the entire world, and i can't believe they're even considering this! I'm direly hoping that it will crash and burn. With me being in Denmark though, i doubt my opinion would matter a lot to them, but i signed up for that Avaaz thing anyways.

Same here. I'd really hate to see the oh-so-praised freedom of Ammurica go that way.

Would you imagine how life would be with almost every good web page blocked?

4chan was one of the sites threatened to be blocked.
Also tumblr, but that might have been a good thing not having to deal with all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fan art.

nah, it has a small torrent board filled with people interested in porn, nostalgia, and a weird combination of both.
Example: porn, porn, Pokemon torrent, porn, ooh cool futa

Also, SOPA bill is DANGEROUSLY close to being passed. Revived the thread because this is relevant now.

EDIT: Opinion of the SOPA bill relating to piracy, said by a friend of mine

Absolutely no popular torrent/warez site is hosted in the US, meaning there may only be DNS censoring (which is a ♥♥♥♥ joke) and search engine censoring. It'll be 1996 all over again, "nerds" pirating ♥♥♥♥ and selling it on streets, kids actually being stupid again. If you know what you're doing now, this won't affect you at all. Look at Japan, people regularly go to jail for using P2P software (Share EX2/Winny/Perfect Dark), yet it still flourishes. Underground forums will be back and sites will be passed by word more often.

Oh, and one more thing to add. Since there are so many bot sites that provide no content, but get many search-engine visits (you know, those fake torrent sites and similar), this will be the absolute end to them. Only quality sites will remain, which is actually much in favor to pirates. Look at warez-bb for example, it's blocking search engines completely, yet it is immensely popular. As long as they don't send you to jail for lesser crimes, this bill won't hurt us.
