Just a quickie little announcement about necros that might be expanded with Mod Q/A if anyone would like clarifications on forum rules/etiquette.


Lately (as in tonight when I checked the reports queue for the first time in a week or two) I've seen a lot of reports about necros and people necroing to say not to necro, etc, and I wanted to straighten out what we consider necros.

A necro is NOT:

• A new post in an old thread. There's nothing wrong with bumping an old thread if you're adding something. This can be as simple as

  Does anyone know how to upconvert this mod to b27?
  or as complex as an analysis of Kantian metaphysics as seen through the lens of the actors in the mod.

A necro IS:

• A new post in an old thread that is also off topic, badly thought out, or not contributing anything. Common examples of this:
  
  Quote:

  This mod is awesome! (insert variable number of smilies and lack of reasons why the mod is awesome or what the person likes about it specifically)
  Quote:

  How did you (OP) make this mod? I wish I could mod like you.
  Quote:

  I like pretzels!

The above examples of proper necros should be reported, not replied to. Replying to necros makes me a sad panda, and I do things I regret doing when I'm a sad panda, like write emo poetry about how much my life is meaningless.

Please, for the sake of my dignity, use the little report button at the bottom right of the post and leave it at that. If the forum tells you that the post has already been reported, rejoice! You have even less work to do, as you can simply wait until a moderator takes care of it. You don't even have to type out "necro" into the report text box!

With that done, feel free to ask about any forum rules or practices you may be unclear about. I'll attempt to answer them to the best of my ability.

And now to wait 2 years and post in this thread again.

Yes, because the lazy-arse necro person could have easily tried out the mod himself.

I do believe it is a rule that should be specifically stated, I'll add it to the mods section rules.

I've only been advising that since B24.

I on the other hand will gladly hand you your ass if I see aggrevating a necro by replying to it. So behave.
