I would say get more RAM first, if your Motherboard allows it. If there are no more open slots, then replace the old modules with newer, bigger ones. No computer nowadays should have to run with 1 gig.

I have 892 Megabytes of RAM, but I still play games all the time. It doesn't stop me at all.

The 1gb you have is quite enough for CC with low mods, the point is that the game loads ALL it's info onto the memory, and that might become laggy if you exceed let's say 60% of your memory.
I used to run it on a 1.66 intel dual core with 2 gb memory, and it did 30-40fps aswell.[1440/900 screen]
So I personally just think Cortex Command just hates your processor, which sucks but still happens.

I also heard that the new intel i5-9 are very very good for playing CC on.

100fps full hd with shooting going on AVERAGE.(i5)

And to the guy saying the new i5 get's unstable at high temps, do your research. I've read about people overclocking them to 3.4ghz(2.67 stock) on a stock cooler with the new msi OC genie overcloaking buttons.(not a typo, the manual says so.)
They remained stable and had no issues at all. Probably sheer luck, but imagine what happens when you get a good fluid cooling system to keep the temp down.

I imagine Moore's Law would put it's foot down at that point.

Do you mean the "If something can go wrong, it will." thing?

EDIT: ♥♥♥♥, that was Murphy's.

Core 2 Quad Q9400 here. I used to be using an E8400, and CC became over 9000 times faster at everything.

More cores with lower clock > higher clock with fewer cores

*EDIT*
Also, more RAM is better. CC crashes due to memory allocation errors.

Ok, i came back to play B27 today but I am constantly getting ERROR: Ran out of memory messages. I am absolutely sure its not my computer, i have 8 gigs of ram and an i7 sandy bridge. The game runs pretty slow too: like average 20fps. I'm wondering if there's ant way to assign the game more RAM on start up, as some games have a option in the properties tab to do so.
