So after playing cortex command for a while, I'm getting that itch... the itch to mod.

I have had lua experience modding CS2D (yes that game), and the other CC that involves people shooting each other with guns and grenades with destructible environments and fancy particle effects (but not in real time)... Carnage Contest! Also lua based.

I also have had a bit of experience doing pixel art.

Anyways, for my first mod, I plan on making a balanced expansion to the vanilla weapons. Perhaps adding on those changes that I think should be added:

  • multiple rocket launcher warhead types. This has been done before in other mods, but I have yet to see one implemented with a pie menu in a balanced fashion (Mehman beat me to the punch with his Experimental weaponry mod, in terms of an unbalanced implementation)
  • safeties to the RPG and 40mm grenades
  • flares (in various fancy colors!)
  • EMP grenades
  • White Phosphorus grenades [coding: complete | sprites: incomplete]
  • Anti-Tank grenades (contact fused big explosion)
  • shaped charge demolition explosives (like the M2 SLAM)
  • battle rifles (that are scaled properly), with pie-menu fire selectors.
  • medkits (yes I know, this has been in 50+ mods already)
  • the M202 FLASH (probably done before)
  • slug rounds for shotguns
  • a fire extinguisher
  • round by round reloading for the Kar98 [complete]

All of these are probably totally unoriginal ideas.

All new weapons would be scaled like the vanilla weapons, all weapons would require no hotkeys (like the vanilla weapons), and I will try my best to balance them as much as I can. the point would be to add these "expansion" weapons in a balanced manner that would meld with the vanilla game.

If I need to lift some code from other people's mods in order to implement these weapons, I will ask first like a nice person

my only question is, would you be interested in a "vanilla expansion pack" mod like this?

has it been done before?

eh, that link isn't working for me.

I guess I'll try, that mod you linked seems rather large, appears to add factions and stuff.

I just want to expand on the stock content.

Heres some more ideas for you. Magnet Missles! Fire them into the air and watch them attach them self to a drop ship and explode.

no, would be pointless (contact fuses get the job done just as well) and unbalanced.

this isn't a pointless stuff mod, this is a "stuff that I think should be in the game" mod.

not a "stuff you think should be in the game" mod. Make one of those yourself

I just had a quick look at these two to see how much experience they would actually give you, and Lua-side it looks good. you seem well placed for writing scripted objects in CC already. What may well be difficult for you is getting to grips with .ini (not too hard) and the way CC runs its Lua. Lua in CC can be a bit of a nightmare, even if you think you know what you're doing. Remember you can always ask on the forums for help at any time, and good luck to you.

thanks, I was just wondering whether you would download/use a mod like this, whether it is overly redundant with existing mods and whatnot.

I probably would make it overwrite the default factions rtes, as this is an expansion, unless you all think that that is a bad idea.

might as well make them sticky missiles

Now, are you planning to edit the default vanilla content? Most people doesn't like that, unless the overhaul is pretty good.

When you hit edit button there is an option to delete the message.

And about editing vanilla content, really, no one likes it much. Why don't you just make an expansion pack separate from the original vanilla content?

Or do what i'm doing and do a Vanilla mod on the concept art, although do it more 100% to the concept (inculding the ideas and such)

since all im doing is taking the Concept art, and Forming it into my own versions of the armies.

yeah I'd be willing to help you with that... but these things are like little gameplay itches that need scratching.

Working on the No.76 SIP

a combination of the disruptor grenade, gas grenades, and the molotov cocktail

coming soon.
