Holy ♥♥♥♥ you actually got that perfectly.

It's a mainstream game made with programmer art, except it's not just programmer art, it's programmer story, environment--holy ♥♥♥♥.

yeah, i guess a lot of similar critiques could be made of cortex command in its current state, but i think the art for cortex command is a thousand times better than that of Red faction, i think the story is fun and doesn't take itself that seriously. It's not trying to be deadly serious, and Red faction is, and it fails at every single attempt.

Cortex Command knows what it is: it's a fun havoc-simulator that's open for user-created content. It's a canvas more than it's a work of art, which is a lot harder to do than just making something narrow and linear. Red faction should have stuck to being that instead trying to be something else. It castrated all of its own possibilities by acting like it was a serious story. As a person who loves stories and fun gameplay, that was really offensive and pathetic to me.

CC knows its a game, through and through, and it's beyond this sort of reproach for that reason. Red faction made the mistake of pretending it was anything more than that.

I find myself getting bored of the super hammer and unlimited ammo cheats.

Live is pretty fun, for a while.

Super hammer is decently fun when you start taking down buildings with people.

But really I think they could've just taken their FIZZIKS engine, made a decent modular building creator, and then made a destruction sim; get the building down fastest, least explosives, smallest area, etc, and it would've been more fun than "crappy third person shooter with decent mechanic thrown in"

When I finished it, I spent time smashing all the buildings.
And then I ran out of buildings.

The sad thing is, you can't reset them all to "working" state again. You're just sat there, at the top of Vogel, having an imaginary conversation with the creators.

"You want me to start a new game to smash more stuff?"
"Yep"
"All the way back to Parker? Just to get my buildings remade?"
"Yeah, that's right."
"With only my sledgehammer and 2 mines?"
"Yup"
"... ♥♥♥♥ that, I'm gunna go play GTA."

Do agree, though it does not feel like a Red Faction game WHATSOEVER but more like Mercs 2/FarCry 2, just on Mars.
Also, shame it's so repetitive... Pretty much everything all over again in each new sector...

GeoMod is epic win, though I think DMM would have produced even more epic win.
Also, they should have made a small sandbox kind of gamemode where you could destroy ♥♥♥♥, then spawn some more ♥♥♥♥, and then destroy it again, because ingame you'll eventually run out of ♥♥♥♥ to destroy.

Overall, it's pretty good, but it could have been A WHOLE ♥♥♥♥ SHITTON better.

Agreed, sandbox would of been awesome.

Imagine: a 50-story building, as wide as the bridge in the badlands.
Once it's destroyed, hit a button and it comes back again.

...Should be an add-on they put on XBLM.

OH ♥♥♥♥ YES!!!
I was really sad when I destroyed that bridge, because it was so awesome and I knew i'd never get a change to do it again. :(

Maybe if we pour enough mail into the developer's in-boxes, we could get them to do as such. :B

In all seriousness, though, that would be hard to pull off, given that a building of that size would have to have quite a bit of it indestructable. You all remember the massive tower that was mostly indestructable?

Turn on all the strong cheats, and it's not indestructible... At ALL... I killed the whole thing, including the "invincible" support beams.
