Post Spelunky - Procedural Generation meets Platforming!
Image

Spelunky is my newest addiction and I have already put countless hours into it. Im sure some of you have already heard of this game.

To start off:
Quote:
Probably the easiest way to describe Spelunky is that it's (kind of) like La Mulana meets Nethack - every time you play the levels, items, monsters, and so forth, are all procedurally-generated. And the terrain is destructible and there are quite a few ways in which the various game elements can interact with one another.

^If you didnt catch some of that- Spelunky starts off as an indiana jones cavern platformer. After the caves comes the jungle where all new enemies and gameplay elements are. Next is ice. then egypt.

I'm not advertising but with the level generation it really is limitless content.

Latest download can be found over here: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=4017.0

Oh i almost forgot. This game is Free and this game is HARD. :-P Try it out DRL.

Oh yes, I love this game, I got it a few months ago, and I haven't won yet. There are a few other people on this forum who play/support this.

I beat it once, but I still don't know what the challenges are for unlocking the other rooms.

Saving eight damsels in one game allows you to play as her.

I have eight wins, all rooms unlocked and a pretty ridiculous high score.

It's never enemies. Spikes and traps always get me. Frustrating as hell.

I've gotten the gold for money (high score jumped from 100k to 205k, so the cutoff is somewhere in there) and the silver for damsels (6). I have yet to get a trophy for a speedrun (which isn't surprising, since I've never actually beaten the final boss) or for kills. I've been to the black market once, but have never gotten to the city of gold yet. I'm getting there. Also, all 3 shortcuts.

It's always a good thing when the shop in level 2 is a dice shop with a jetpack as the prize. ALWAYS.

Jetpack only seems useful in levels 2 and 3 (where the game makes tons of drops that are JUST deep enough to hurt you) and against the boss. The cape is pretty much just as useful, especially if you have the climbing gloves. Then again, the climbing gloves can get you killed a lot if you mess up just a little bit.

I always get killed on the jungle stages, so my dame-saving trophy will have to wait until I can figure out how to speedrun through that area and still make sure I didn't miss her.

Jetpack is MEGA ROCKS in area 3 I dunno what you're talking about.

Actually jetpack is pretty much the easy button for the entire game.

I love this game, so much. It's a ♥♥♥♥ sometimes, but it's so addicting.

Is there any multiplayer hax anywhere?

Edi: I <3 the cape, but I've never found a jetpax. :???:

I got to the icy bits once, and I was doing good, throwing yetis at UFOs and all that, when halfway down the level, a UFO charged at me as I was throwing my Yeti. :( I had like 4+ health, too.

Well anything that lets you not have to put up with the bull♥♥♥♥ terrain of level 3 is basically the best thing you could ask for.
