netPanzer is an online multiplayer tactical warfare game designed for fast action combat. Gameplay concentrates on the core - no resource management is needed. The game is based on quick tactical action and unit management in real-time. Battles progress quickly and constantly as destroyed players respawn with a set of new units. Players can join or leave games at any time.

It's a great game and a pretty quick one to get in to. Personally I like the fact that most of the maps are large enough to support up to 100 players and that you can make your own flags and maps. It's not too hard to get a dedicated server up for it either.

The objective of the game is to capture the various factories littered around the map until you've gained the percentage to win as set in the victory options panel before you start. There are no resources, and the only thing that slows down unit production is the time taken to build them.

Hmm. So, it's a game of micromanagement?

Depends on your definition of it really. There aren't any upgrades or abilities but all the tanks are different and you can destroy the heaviest tanks with the lightest ones if you use them correctly.

Well, I define micro as just being more focused on tactics than strategy. Rather than being rock-paper-scissors gameplay, skill on a unit-management level can change the outcome of something.

Seems kinda interesting. Anyone wanna host a drl server sometime?

♥♥♥♥, we could have a game right now on one of the official servers. They're not exactly always full.

This looks cool... Just download the client and play?

How long are the games usually?

The games aren't really like those of traditional RTS ones. You can come and go as you like, and there are objectives you have to reach. A team of units will respawn if all of yours have been killed.

The only resource is time.

I can't really tell if I'm any good.

But I usually end up losing mass-unit-rushes.

This'd be fun to play 1v1 or 2v2 with a high unit cap.

A few little skirmishes and then MASSIVE ASSAULT from each side.

I like my RTSes with insane scale.

I'd have to agree. The way that server was set up wasn't very good to be honest. Starting with twenty of the game's most powerful units doesn't seem very right.

I tried this with a friend. It took forever to win, and while we were battling I had to turn off most of my sound, it was so loud. My analysis, it needs some helper AI or waypoint/patrol commands to be more usable.

Good lord waypoints would be nice.

Still, maybe we could do a DRL server. I can probably host.

Oh, and it crashed after an hour or so. Dunno how common crashbugs are.

I'm interested.
Only thing is i'm afraid of becoming overwhelmed easily, my tactic is to sit tight, build up good defences, watch what happens, and dispatch groups of units where needed.

I just played it, fun but very hard.

All I can say, my only problem with ti is the pathfinding AI. It's REALLY retarded; you have to walk your units through it.

For anyone wondering, all that happens if you capture factories by sending tanks onto a pad. The factory makes a unit that you pick from list. You send the units out.

That's my typical tactic also.

When there's literally no building, you have to adapt fast.

Sneaky rushes into unguarded bases are pretty easy; you live much more by your army than your factories in this game.

Although most units don't last too long, especially in the face of superior numbers. You just have to be ready to rapidly refresh your units whenever you can keep hold of a factory.

But, yeah, some AI improvements and UI tweaks would be quite nice. Oh well.
