Post Halo: Reach
So it's a little less than a week away, and if we can put aside the 'hurr durr moar leik GAYlo', I'd like to make a thread about it.

I can't afford Xbox Live at the moment but I'll still be playing on a friends account, or the free live weekend for just such the occasion. My tag is Dauss, unsurprisingly. If you'd like to play, Friend Request me and in the text box mention who you are. Or just post your tag in this thread, that works too. I'm warning you though, thanks to mysterious powers at work I'm going to have a weeks head start at the game as of today.

Obligatory picture:

Progress =/= Personal experience gained.
It's not like they can wipe her brain or anything like that.

Post Re: Halo: Reach
I pre-ordered it, and am very excited about stabbin' some elites in the back and punching the ground so that ghost explodes and wraps around me like it it hit a reinforced concrete wall protected by kinetic shields and armor-all for shininess.

Oh It'll be fun, might have to play a couple of you guys at some point.

also, I'm sure there's workarounds for people that have the game already. I'd put the save on a removable drive then just leave it out when launch day happens. All with my box disconnected from live of course, and on a fresh account I'm not planning on connecting to live.

Interestingly enough, everybody at my school with a 360 is already playing this. We have our own prodigious superhacker, who happens to be nice enough to spread the goodness :P UNFORTUNATELY, I only have a PS3, so I in no way benefit from it.

Dauss the thread wrecker strikes again with his gender-related issues!

Anyways, since I wanted to actually contribute something to the thread that than make a little joke, at least before it dies, I'll mention that I haven't played much Halo... but I do know I suck at it. Badly.

I'm talking about in game experience, dummy. As in I am playing it right now and I will have more knowledge of game mechanics and levels before you do.

I disapprove of Reach, except in that it is supposedly the end of the series. Major failures with the last three Halo games, in my opinion. 3: ODST wasn't all that impressive, except for FireFight, and the Wars game was just another RTS, right? At least it will pull some noobs out of CoD:4 and MW2, eh?

If I recall correctly, Halo's core game mechanics are
  1. Throw grenade
  2. Jump.
  3. Shoot rocket at feet.
  4. Jump.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4.
The only real discrepancy between the games was the specific combination of incoherently effective weapons required to most efficiently rocketjump and lob grenades.

My brother played the demo for innumerable hours. I don't know why it's so significant that you got an early copy.

Post Re: Halo: Reach
I thought that was Unreal Tournament. My understanding of Halo mechanics was this:
1. Throw grenade.
2. Start shooting.
3. Continue shooting while running towards enemy player.
4. When "shields" come down, engage Pavlovian SMASH MELEE BUTTON response.

Grif, you hit that target spot on.

Halo 3 online nowadays is basically just that- AND THE JUMPING- how do you jump two meters while wearing two ton armor?

Basically by being a super-soldier and having fancy strength enhancing armor, but that's neither here nor there.
I want Reach, I don't even have a 360. I want it for the story. Goddamn, this is gonna be awesome. Say what you will about the games, Eric Nylund can write some kickass books.
