Post Re: Thinkin' about buying some Warhammer 40k models
Well, I just went for a 5 marine squad, some paints and some brushes order in order to get started and get the hang of things. Just keep in mind that it'll be a very expensive hobby.

1.)Go for something smaller, maybe 3 - 10 marines, just to figure out if it's really something you want to follow up.
2.)You get a pretty basic, but complete army, so it's rather good if you have someone to play with beforehand.
3.)They will come in pieces, so you'll need to assemble and paint them. The basic paint set alone will cost you something like 80 bucks.

Well in theory you could have a tournament legal(nearly twice as much as just your fun evening game) army with 20 models. So the expensive part isn't really true.
On the other hand the black reach armies(especially the ork one) are quite okay and will give you hours of fun. I think I spend about $20 on paint so far, but I think just 5 colours should be enough if you want to try it out once. The glue and undercoat paints are extremely expensive and should just be bought from another company.

I guess you would be spending about $90 in total for a complete army if you counted all the other materials. Note that for this amount of money you could also buy one specific army, but that would only be reasonable if you had anybody to play with who already have their own armies.

Oh oh oh, I see what you did there.

Also, don't just go for 3 colors, for maximum effect spend an extra few bucks on washes, like badab black and devlin mud.

Warmachines is superior. Would love to get into this but no one in DC plays nerd games.

Not necessarily true, they're just probably not very open with their hobby. I thought that around here no one would play this type of thing and yet there are. There's even a few stores scattered near where I live.

How do I go about finding nerds? I've tried posting on reddit/r/mylocality and other such things to no avail. There's one games and hobby shop around me but it looks--dead--the times I've stopped by.

I know our store always has tournaments once a month, they always draw lot's of people. Maybe you should ask if they do something like that.

Most stores have tournaments every month. Some even have two, one for 40k and another one for fantasy.

On a semi-related note, these MK3 are ♥♥♥♥ gorgeous.

But ~25 bucks for a five set. God damned forge world.

With some clever trickery he could be playing a guitar.
