Hyaaaa! Ludum Dare just finished, did you make a game?

I did. It's called 'A Manor of Speaking'. The theme was 'Alone' and at first I thought it sucked - too ambiguous. Then I just made a sprite and started on a platformer engine. Miraculously, 44 hours later, I have a great platforming engine, an OK story, game mechanics, easter eggs and a whole sprite sheet. All in a working, finished game.

In the game, you play a young boy who finds an old scary Mansion with his friends, but his friends get left outside when he enters. He then takes a flashlight and attempts to find the way out, avoiding the possessed suits of armour, floating ghosts and chest mimics.

Executable download HERE

Did you make anything? I know Geti did.

I cant seem to open the door in the first room on the browser one.

EDIT: Then I jumped really high somehow and got up here.

I can't seem to figure out how to pick up the flashlight in the downloaded one.

Press the Ctrl key to grab the torch, there's a 'painting' there on the wall that says so.

And yeah, the HTML5 is bound to have bugs in it. I'll give it a look.

EDIT: Update! Fixed a major bug that stopped you from completing the game.

Well you see, nobody speaks Latin, and everyone will continue to say 'Loodum Dare'.
To Give a Game sounds like a charity organization that gives homeless people video games that they probably can't play anyway.

I watched a video I thought was of the organiser of Ludum Dare discussing with the IRC guys about pronunciation, and he said it was either "Loodum Dair" or "Luhdum Dair". i'm gonna keep saying "Loodum Dair" until I get in trouble.

Play my game please? It is quite short and you can finish it in 5min if you don't die.

That sounded somewhat sarcastic..?

Disregarding pointless babble on pronunciation, it appears the web version is gone. Was this intended?

It still exists, I went and found it, but it's buggy as hell.

The web version sucks because the conversion from Game Maker to Javascript sucks. It's still in beta. The only way to make it work would be to work around the bugs and I can't be bothered as I'm sick.

Indeed. LD is a bloody good thing to do and anyone interested in learning to make games or who's on their way to doing so should do it (I know there are a fair few people here who fit those respective bills). The things I learn about my workflow each time are astounding.

As for pronounciation: I say it with the latin ludum and the english dare, meaning game dare (which makes sense to me, if not grammatically).

As for my entry, sorry for the collision/movement issues and moreso the fiddly controls in the elevator. I managed to get the tech more or less down but making hitboxes move around nicely is something I'm out of practice in - I'll likely have a bit of a tinker once I've got some time around KAG and holidaying (the time gap is even worse in GMT+12 than GMT+10 with CET <_<)

I'll get some comments together once I've had time to do them justice - it might happen on the LD site rather than here depending on where I am on the internet at the time ;)

(sorry for the drastically convoluted post, I'm tired out)
