Post Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries
From the general wind of things in the Lounge, people are going to be playing this on multiplayer, myself included.

It's going to be fun indeed.

For those who don't know what MW4 is, here's a trailer.

Now, let's get that multiplayer sorted. I don't have the first clue at all what to do to get it up and running.

Whelp, I guess I could try hosting, but my upload speed is fairly low, only 1Mbps.
And I'm behind 2 routers. That might... affect things.

I've not tried much Mercs MP, but from what I've heard it's mostly filled with sniperspam.

Still, co-op missions or whatever could be fun.

You've heard correctly. However there's probably some good servers laying about.

I might be able to host a server, I can host a terraria one, so I know my router is not broken, and I have a decent upload speed. (Compared to Natti)
only problem would be that it would be located in the US mid west.

More or less that's how it is sometimes, mainly because most of the "best" guns are long ranged.

I'd like to download but the download from the Mechwarrior site doesn't seem to be working
Does this link look sound for downloading?

Yes, that is where I got it, I don't recommend using the auto downloader thing though, as when I used it it did not work, but manual download and updating had it work for me.

MTX was a pain in the ass for me, but it might work better for others. .mtx files are just glorified .zips anyway, 7zip can open and unpack them if you don't want to get the MTXExtract app.

Reinstalled it and am reorienting myself now with some IA Solaris matches. Gotta get the keys reconfigured...

Awhsum
Downloading now, whole process that I took is a bit strange, it's a client, that downloads the game, via a torrent?

Also I don't know how similar this may be to Mechwarrior, but it has mechs, so maybe check out M.A.V.
Early alpha right now, but it looks promising, however it's going to be released, I don't know

(Sorry for double post)
Well that was 'an experience', I played the 'campaign', aside from the 'unique' interface and graphics, I think I'm in over my head with controls
I did finally work out the controls, but they're all over the place, I tried to reassign them, but it's still a bit of a mess
At least it was good to try something new..

So, are we getting multiplayer up and running for ourselves, or is this thread doomed for obscurity with the ages?

I for one, would love to, but I cannot figure out how to do, well, anything really.
MechWarrior is hard

MechWarrior is hard

I've found the game depressingly easy.

Solaris was laughable at best, I crushed all my opponents.

The Styk honour guard mission was hard, I'll give you that. I tailored a mech into being the ideal solution for killing ♥♥♥♥ tons of heavies in close combat.

What I do is use the mouse for torso rotation and elevation, mousewheel for weapon group selection, A/D to turn left/right, and W/S for accelerate/decelerate. Then reassign the remaining commands as necessary.

Once you get the hang of things it's pretty easy. Just a case of finding setups that work.

Styk mission (in either flavour) is definitely one of the hardest. The followups are pretty tricky too if you try to help them escape, but at least you have the lancemates again.
