Yeah, I imagine that would turn out about as well, too, considering how little difference there's likely to be.

I'm only worried that they'll try to shoehorn paid mods into FO4. There was huge backlash when they tried it with Skyrim, but Bethesda/Valve said something along the lines of "Oh yeah we shouldn't have tried that, on an old game that has had free mods for years, our bad." Seems like a new title is the place to try again.

They probably will. Whether or not they learned anything is anyone's guess. :???:

Eh, mods being paid or free is largely the discretion of the modder, As long as the quality is there, i wouldn't mind having paid mods, its basically third party dlc. in a way its better than normal dlc because you know that it is original content that was created after the game instead of something they decided not to include with the final product so that they could sell it later for $$$

Either way I was really happy after seeing the trailer, Fallout is one of my favorite settings and I can't wait to see what the story will be.

The game itself doesn't matter because I won't have a PC that can play it for another 4 years.

Most DLC is dumb and overpriced in the first place, and that's from companies that have market research to tell them where they should price their shiny weapon skin pack. I don't trust people to price their mods right, or, more importantly, to admit they were wrong in their pricing after people balk at it.

The Minecraft modding community has taught me one very important thing about people, money, and mods: people get stupidly anal about their "intellectual property" as soon as they have any sort of financial involvement.

Well, yes there are some stinkers that are never worth the money. I will agree with that. But thats what reviews are for. It doesn't matter if 95% of paid mods aren't worth the cash, as long as their are properly advertised like every other form of game it should go fine.

I don't expect Paid modding to completely phase out free modding either.

It's not so much that there are overpriced stinkers as it changes the whole dynamic of a modding community. The introduction of extrinsic motivation frequently kills intrinsic motivation, and modding communities survive on intrinsic motivation.

I am perfectly willing to be proven wrong, but I don't see anything good coming from paid mods.

Welp, it's not an MMO. And it looks like they've actually added some interesting features.
Using the millions of useless objects scattered around the world for crafting sounds pretty cool.

The settlement stuff looks like a very obvious build-up on the Hearthfire expansion for Skyrim and the general popularity of survival/construction sims, they've clearly recognized how much people loved to build and customize their homes there (and in earlier games) through the use of mods and the dev console, and are trying to make it much more accessible without being mandatory for the game. Something I'm wondering about now is whether we'll be able to build down as well as up, like set up a basement or whatever.

It's a nice touch and doesn't seem to be too shoehorned in by executive meddling. I expect to see many awkward wobbling hobotowers studded with sentry turrets and floodlights, filled with loot and crafting stuff.

Adding extra purpose to the world clutter is nice too. I'm kinda concerned about the potential to break certain things by disassembling other people's' stuff, but I'm guessing they'll have some kind of ownership system so you can't tear NPC stuff down without pissing off the owning faction or clearing the place out.

I can't wait to see modders get their hands on the gun and armour customization systems either. The latter is perfect for some 40K shenanigans for sure.

I'm just waiting to be able to make an outpost in the middle of suburban Massachusetts so that I can shoot waves of feral ghouls arrogant pricks and bad drivers (is there really that much of a difference?)

Actually I'm waiting to see all the lines of dialogue that makes fun of Massholes. If I find out that less than 50% of my dialogue options aren't something heinous and offensive towards those wannabe chowder heads then I'm going to be severely mildly perturbed.

Also I anticipate a quest named "Don't tread on me." If that or a variation on that isn't a quest, I'm going to be even more mildly perturbed.

Hell, I'm going to reckon that there's an entire group of people with stupid ♥♥♥♥ accents based around being overly aggressive Tea Party ♥♥♥♥. Thinking about it has got me all giddy. It's too obvious. There's so much material to work with. It's gonna be like a GTA game, except the references aren't lame sexual innuendos.

Ugh I might just go down to Boston RIGHT NOW and get the ♥♥♥♥ kicked out of me again beat some ♥♥♥♥ up. Massachusetts amirite?

Prepare yourself for inarticulate Fallout screaming, then a good 24 hours or so of silence.
