Bezel finishes eating the rest of her portion, looking ready to drop dead.

Bezel: "Something to check out on the weekend. I'm gonna get to bed now. Thanks for dinner"

You see her smile as she turns away, and hear it in her voice.

Bezel: "Night Ralph."

After Bezel returns to her room, you wash and dry the dishes and pan, take a quick shower, and then return to the living room, sitting down on the large sofa and relaxing a bit.

There aren't really bookshelves in the living room, not being used for books anyways, but there is a coffee table with two books sitting on it - one being the holy texts of the First of Caelum, and another being the holy texts of Saint Raena.

There might be books in one of the rooms in the "recreation hall" - you haven'y thoroughly explored Bezel's apartment, yet.

You hop off the sofa and explore the Recreation Hall!

One room full of carnival games, many of them automated, along with a pool table, air hockey table, ping pong table, and small mini-golf course. This is the room that you remember playing in the first time you were in Bezel's apartment.

Another room is the workshop, full of HM tools, various machines and appliances in different stages of disassembly, reference manuals and blueprints sitting in piles here and there. Definitely reading material, but you don't think it's what you're looking for.

A locked room is the firearm vault - probably shouldn't try to poke around there without Bezel.

The last room looks like it's for storage - lots of boxes and chairs, as well as assorted machinery like 3-axis mills, various optics, mechanical calculators, and about a dozen or so sewing machines.

Between the sewing machines and her explanation to the people of Raena, Bezel must be really into clothesmaking. Neat!

How does she manage to run a mill inside her apartment without waking up everyone in the building?

>Well, nothing of use here. Are there other wings to her place, or have we seen all of it?

>If nothing remains, give the Raena book a read. Might have something about the red stone in there, or more stories about the village.

The mills aren't actually plugged in or resting on work benches, so they're probably just being stored for now.

Leaving the Recreation Hall, you see a door neat the kitchen that you haven't checked before. Opening it up, it leads to a laundry room! Functional, but not exciting.

Heading back to the sofa, you decide to read a random bit from the Raena book before heading to bed. It has a lot of similarities, intended to be standalone from the First's book, with expansions for Raena's teachings and stories.

You skip to a random section and read.

The grey mouse played in the grass with his friends, running and hiding and chasing. Small feet scampering under the brush and over the log they played.

Then, there was a new sound, a faint whisper, a strange smell.

“Hush!” he heard.

“The fox is here!” they said.

The grey mouse froze, not moving a whisker.

Suddenly a large creature pounced through the grass and a mouse screamed as she was caught, the jaws of a terrible fox closing down on her and quickly silencing the mouse.

“It sees us!”

“Run now!”

The grey mouse ran along with his friends, escaping the fox that was starting to eat his catch. The mice ran and ran until they were far away, hoping it was far enough.

“The fox got us again.”

“He always finds us, no matter how far we run!”

The grey mouse had an idea.

“What if we dug underground? We could not play, but we would be safe from the fox!”

“Yes, we should try digging!”

The grey mouse and his friends dug into the ground, making a deep tunnel where they could hide. Feeling safe, they chattered among each other, squeaking in comfort. For many days, they did not see or hear the fox.

Then, there was a new sound, a faint dragging, a strange smell.

“Hush!” he heard.

“The fox is here!” they said.

Large paws and claws dug at the entrance of their tunnel, making it wider and wider until all the mice could see the fox. When it was wide enough, the fox reached his head into the tunnel and grabbed a mouse, biting down to silence the frightened scream.

“It’s distracted!”

“Run now!”

The grey mouse ran around the fox with his friends, escaping the fox that was occupied with eating his catch. The mice ran and ran until they were far away, hoping it was far enough.

“The fox got us again.”

“He reached us, even with how deep we dug!”

The grey mouse had an idea.

“What if we dug underground, and stayed silent? We could not play or speak, but we would be safe from the fox!”

“Yes, we should try staying silent!”

The grey mouse and his friends dug into the ground, making a deep tunnel where they could hide. They stayed silent, and for many weeks, they did not see or hear the fox. Feeling safe, they enjoyed the breeze of the wind coming into the tunnel and the bugs that wandered to and fro.

Then, there was a new sound, a loud dragging, a familiar smell.

“Oh no!” he heard.

“The fox is here!” they said.

The fox again dug at the entrance of the tunnel, opening it up until he snapped up another mouse in his jaws.

“Run!”

The grey mouse once again ran around the fox with his friends, escaping the fox that was occupied with eating his catch. The mice ran and ran until they were far away. It never seemed to be far enough.

“He reached us, even with how deep we dug, and how silent we stayed!”

The grey mouse had an idea.

“What if we dug underground, stayed silent, and block the entrance? We could not play or speak or watch the wind and bugs, but we would be safe from the fox!”

“Yes, we should try blocking the entrance!”

The grey mouse and his friends dug into the ground, making a deep tunnel where they could hide, and then blocked the entrance, only leaving a tiny hole for air. They stayed silent, and for many months, they did not see or hear the fox.

There was no a new sound. No scary smell.

They could not play, could not speak, and could not feel the wind or watch the bugs.

They felt safe.

Another day at work.

You look at the list of expedition team applicants:

Evelyn Loach
Frederick Grimwall
Oliver Flint
John Klees
Valerie Krumpit

A letter from the hospital is on your desk, telling you that Valerie is indeed alive and on the road to recovery.

You should probably decide on who to hire, or at least set up secondary interviews.

Pulling out a piece of paper, you write a formal request for Valerie, Evelyn, and Oliver.

Walking over to Liam's office, you set the paper on his unoccupied desk and then leave.

On the way back, you see Bezel in her own office looking over some papers.

Bezel: "Mm. Looking at some constructors for potential trainees. Not the best selection, since they're rare as it is, and the best ones get grabbed up quickly."

Bezel: "Probably several, see how far they all get after a bit, then fire the ones that aren't working."
