Post Re: World Reader
You are Raphael "Ralph" Mebbit.

Slumping into the chair behind your desk, you pull out your typewriter and begin writing the expedition report.

The last two months were spent in the ruined UEN city, clearing out all of the traps in the research facility and retrieving all the machinery, followed by combing the city for additional research facilities and cleaning them out.

You've learned a bit more about the strange monkey creatures as well. Opportunistic omnivores, they'll eat just about anything they can get their hands on.

Including people.

Not a single living human, chirop, or lupus was left in the city, only their bones scattered about or thrown into piles.

With great care from your team and coordination with the temporary escort/labour force, you were able to complete the expedition without a single casualty, and have successfully captured ten live monkey specimens.

There were also three additional research facilities that you've stripped clean of anything remotely useful-looking, which took quite an effort to load all into Ingret.

It's all been unloaded to the Ossolen branch already, what a headache that was - they were definitely not prepared to store the amount of stuff you've recovered.

You let out a tired sigh, tapping away at your typewriter as Isla walks into your office, setting down a cup of coffee and a plate with an egg-and-sausage sandwich.

Isla: "Welcome back. Are your expeditions normally this long?"

Overall, pretty smashing success."

Isla: "That's good to hear that it went well. I think Claire was worried with how long it was taking for what should've been a retrieval expedition, but I guess the monkeys add a layer of complication."

"Your average core beast adds a layer of complication. These things, they add layer upon layer.
Honestly my biggest concern was that they'd get so desperate or angry that they start smashing and destroying the machines and files we came for.
But, it all turned out well in the end. Lots of complication, but nothing we can't handle, if slowly."

Isla: "I see.

Speaking of expeditions, your expedition truck is basically done. William is finishing up the corruption shielding right now, but it's perfectly driveable."

Isla: "Mm. The truck's in the mechanic garage. I'll be heading back to Claire, have to run more tests."

She leaves you to your report, and you take a few more minutes to finish it up.

Once complete, you drop it on Liam's desk, since he seems to be held up in a meeting somewhere.

You arrived in Darson over the weekend and went straight to your office this morning, so you missed your normal arrival-greeting with Claire.

[To the mechanic garage!]
[To Claire!]

Entering the warehouse, you see Ingret is off of her usual giant pet bed and instead lying on the ground behind Claire, who's seated at her usual table.

Isla is also at the table, watching your entrance.

Claire: "I see you're back, and Isla tells me you even captured some of the monkeys!"

"Yup! A grand ten of the beasts.

Uh, be careful with those, though. They're pretty good at hiding, and... Eating, people. In hindsight, we probably should've evacuated the town's inhabitants last time we went there.
There was no one left, at least none that we could find."

Claire: "Oh. That's a bit grim.

Have you told our pasta friend about them?"

"Yup. Wasn't something she'd heard about before, either.

Considering letting her have a look at them. On one hand, she could probably tell us a lot about their anatomy and apparent lack of spirit.

On the other... Invisible pasta doll army. Yeah."
