Well let's look around."

Your team walks around together, looking at the people occupied in their games.

Men, women, human, chirop, lupus, some dressed richly, others in wrinkled work clothes and even a few in basically rags - quite the range of patrons.

Valerie: "The woman from the bar - she might be able to point out who's of interest to us."

She leads the way to the chip counter, where people exchange money for chips if they're entering the casino, and chips for money if they're leaving. One of the women manning the counter you recognize as the passed-out woman at the bar.

Woman: "Good evening."

Valerie: "Evening. Got my boss here, and we're wonderin' if you know anyone here who might be connected to the Gria."

Woman: "You're in luck. Vakus Demiira is in tonight - a saahi with good trade relations with Vellum. He's one of our regular patrons and friendly with Vellum businesses, so I'm sure he'll be willing to speak with you."

Valerie: "Where can we find him?"

Woman: "Usually at the King's Hand tables. Tall fellow, off-white robes. He always has the crest of a cornflower somewhere on his attire."

Valerie: "Thanks."

Valerie slips a bill to the woman, who pockets it and gives a small nod of appreciation.

Leaving the chip counter, you and the team walk around the card tables.

They're full of players and spectators, but it isn't long before you find one table with a tall tan chirop seated, wearing an off-white robe with an emblem of a blue flower on his back.

The game is still ongoing, so you stand by and watch.

You're not entirely sure how the game works, other than it revolving around a good hand and heavy bluffing. Vakus seems to have a steady hold on the majority of the chips, while others either run out or cling on to their smaller piles.

The game goes on for minutes, and you watch as people drop out and new people appear, some of them previous players with another load of chips in hand.

Might be difficult to find a break in the action.

You're not, entirely sure what to do here, to be honest.

Oliver: "Don't worry boss, I got this."

Oliver suddenly takes a step forward, taking one of the empty seats at the table.

He places his chips on the table - five whites, which you deduce as the lowest value.

The other players at the table chuckle, a few shake their heads, though Vakus seems interested.

As the plays continue, you watch as the other players drop out of the game, cutting their losses or outright losing everything, and eventually only Oliver, Vakus, and the dealer remain, attracting quite the crowd.

Vakus has a mountain of chips as expected, but Oliver holds on to his stash that, while small, is at least ten times the value of what he started.

Until, when the players reveal their hands once more, Oliver slaps the table in defeat.

Oliver: "Damn."

Vakus: "Your hand, beats mine?"

Oliver: "Oh."

Vakus and the dealer look confused.

Oliver: "Yeah uh. King's Hand in Ariana is different from Siana. No idea what I'm doin'."

The crowd roars with laughter, while Vakus chuckles with a hand to his face.

Vakus: "That explains why I couldn't read you."

Oliver: "Guess I'm droppin' off now."

Vakus: "Next time I'll have to play you when you know what your hands mean.

You are, from Siana?"

Oliver: "Yeah, I'm with an archaeology team. My boss is right'ere-"

He gestures to you.

Vakus: "I am Vakus Demiira, saahi just across the border.

Why don't I treat you to all to a drink? A thanks for this entertaining game."

Your team enters a private booth in the casino bar, sitting on one side while Vakus and a chirop accompanying him take a seat on the other.

A brief introduction is done - all the members of your team, and Vakus introducing his companion - his "zoja", Raali. She greets you with a polite nod, though remains silent.

A waitress sets down drinks for everyone according to their orders - minimally alcoholic, and a few teas - No good getting drunk in a business meeting, afterall.

Vakus: "So tell me, how did you and your team come to Vellum? I was not aware of any ships making runs that far south."

A while back my team captured an unhatched witchling core, and turns out they're very impressionable if you raise them right."

"The capture I wasn't personally there for, but it involved a downed witch queen, a constructor, and a motorcycle. Like an action movie heist in a collapsing city. Get in, get the cores, get out.

Raising her on the other hand required donuts, cuddles, and lessons on what she isn't allowed to burn."

Vakus: "Like raising a child.

Were you able to capture more than one?"

"Ah, hm. Magic constructs! Specifically the portions that control the construct.
They manufacture and develop magical and non-magical things like that, machinery for complex control and logic. Such as, mm... controlling and tracking a casino's worth of slot machines from a central location. Things like that.
A mass producible alternative to what you'd normally need a skilled constructor for."
