"Sounds good. What about the uh, rest of the village, though? Do they seem like they'll chase us out as an angry mob anytime soon?"

Bezel: "Don't think so. Made them a bunch of HM cookware, containers, and tools. Made 'em pretty happy."

The two of you head back into the office. Bezel grabs a cup and fills it from the sink in the lounge area before returning to the game table, sitting down and looking it over.

You return to your own seat, while the camera on the ceiling swivels to face Bezel.

Bezel: "The UEN did a lot of experimentation on spirits, with the intent on mass producing combat mages. Attempts at transferring abilities, moving spirits from one person to another, those sort of things."

"That... sounds familiar.

So what happened to them then? The uh, city is sort of in ruins."

Bezel: "Someone, or a group of people, broke out several test subjects from cells, who in turn broke out others, until you had a mob of angry, magic-wielding swamp people blowing everything up. Apparently a lot of them, people from the Lindow, were from a lineage of Aura Casters, a mage variant that has much shorter casting range than 'normal', but significantly stronger. The static antimagic systems in their cells was enough to stop their magic, but nothing outside was as capable.

Once they took control of the facility, the city's military set up a siege. Lot of the Lindow people died from starvation, sickness, or getting shot. About a week passed until a group managed to escape, slaughtering enough soldiers to break the siege. The soldiers fled, and the Lindow people tried to take control of the city - killing any soldier or city official they could find, collecting food and other supplies, some of them killed civilians as revenge. The UEN tried to retake the city several times, unsuccessfully, and decided to just cut their losses and shell it.

After that, the Lindow people that were still alive left and went back to their homes. The civilians in the city either stayed and tried to live off of whatever was left, or tried to leave."

"Damn...
That's, harsh. At least it can't happen here anymore...

When are we gonna get our tour? Tomorrow?"

"Oh, duh. 'Here' being up where the experiments happened. Assumed it was close by.
Anyway, when are they going to guide us?"

Bezel: "It's at the northern end of the continent, along the coast. They're up for guiding us tomorrow - seemed like several wanted to go back."

Bezel: "We'll fly out of the Lindow, get out, have them look around and point, fly to wherever they pointed, get out again, and so on. Lot faster than walking."

Bezel: "The people you saw aren't coming with us. The ones involved in the experiments didn't seem anywhere near as distrustful.

Oh! That reminds me - one of them had a framed drawing of the people that infiltrated the facility and broke out the first group of test subjects. There was a woman in the sketch that had a scar on her face, and an eyepatch. Ring any bells?"

"...We might need to make Olivia a copy of that. It might boost her self confidence a bit."
