"A basic emergency medical kit is simple to assemble and good for everyone to have. A tourniquet, a few bandages, and a flask of lightly salted water for cleaning out wounds if magic isn't available.

We should reevaluate our gear once we get to port, and rest up properly. This is just the travel portion, who knows how rough things'll get when we're actually on the ground."

Frederic: "We'll be traveling again soon over land, but we won't have the luxury of a more experienced healer handy then.
Our money is running somewhat low. Between defensive spells, medical supplies, and transport to the capital, we'll need to take a job in Gunan before we head out."

"Glad I had the foresight to pack extra ammo, no telling what prices they'd be charging where we land.

Basic medical kit should be nearly free to assemble, just need to get some cheap rags and boil 'em clean for bandages, and whittle some sticks.

Rest of the stuff will have to come after we get a job."

Frederic: "Ammo should be fine. Gunan has a strong adventurer guild presence, so you can stock up on ammo here. Might be harder in the capital, the guild isn't as popular there."
You reload your gun with your stock of ice bullets, then tuck it back away. The others quietly settle down to whatever they want for the night, as the sun fully sets.

The group of ships finally reaches the southern continent.
There have been a couple more bird incursions on the last leg of the trip, but nothing near the numbers of the first one, and none made their way back to your ship. Aside from that the flying has been peaceful, though with more shifts for you on steering. Leon's arms are still weak, with his right arm in a sling and his left mobile but having difficulty with so much as a fork. Karina and Frederic have been helping him out in the meantime with getting dressed and meals. You notice his strength especially seems to wane around dinner.

As the ships approach Gunan, Frederic at the helm pulls yours out from its position in the rear of the pack so you can get a good first look at land. Despite yourself, your breath catches.
The first thing you see is the edge. A sharp transition from open sky to earth, stretching left and right endlessly into the distance. Grass leads up almost right to the edge, quickly giving way to bare earth as the underside of the island slopes down and inward away from the sun. Off in the distance, you see both hills sloping up and down the land, and sparse forests bristling over the edges of open plains.

Directly in your path is your target, the city. It's built right up against the edge of the sky, letting ships easily dock over open air. A bustling harbor that even surpasses Madosa's busy docks, an entire edge of the roughly semicircular city is devoted to docks and ships. Further from the edge, the industrial buildings and warehouses give way to smaller houses, shops, and other buildings. You even see a grey stone church with an eight pointed compass rose in the center of the area, a church to the Lords.
It's all so much larger than anything you've seen before. Madosa is busy and jam packed with life, but it has to all be built compact to fit on the island. Here, the city has spread out with all the space it desires.

Though yes, compared to Madosa, it's pretty big."

Dock!

~~~
You take your first step off the ship and onto the continent, follow by Karina, Leon, and Frederic. Seems stable enough...
You're at the docks, obviously. A long cliff edge built up with thick grey masonry, with hundreds of long wooden docks stretching out into the sky for ships of all sizes to moor at.
You've hooked up on the west edge of the city where smaller ships seem to dock, with the docks facing north and the ship sizes growing larger as you go east.
Frederic: "Good to be back on trustworthy ground. Now then, let's get to the Guild branch. I think I remember where it is."
You set off to walking down the streets, Frederic leading the way confidently. Despite being fairly busy, the streets never feel crowded like they do in Madosa. It helps that they're easily twice as wide as you're used to.
Frederic: "So before we get there, any preference as to what we do? We need travel money, but we could hoof it if we wanted to walk for a few days. The job or jobs we'll need will be bigger if we want to do a carriage.
Hm. Planting season, but we're not anywhere near farm land. The local guards probably have any extermination work handled, and we're not near anything magically active or interesting... Might have to get guard duty."
"Something non-combat might be preferable, unless if we're leaving Leon in an inn or something.
Starting to think more preparations for this trip would've been nice...
Let's just see what's on the job board here I guess."
Frederic: "Adventurers don't often get non-combat in well explored territory, sadly."
Leon: "If we get that barrier thing, then I can keep myself safe. I can cast fast and have a lot of mana, emergency shield isn't hard as long as I know the attack's coming."
You all make your way to the adventurer's guild with Frederic leading the way. The Gunan guild office is a grey stone building, three stories tall with a wide entrance and windows lining the front. The buildings here are all directly up against each other with no space between them. All things considered, it's surprisingly reminiscent of Madosa building style.
You head in and make for the job board.
Frederic was right, little extermination work. A lot of postings for guards for various caravans going in various directions, makes sense for a port city. No unusual stuff like lost items/people right now, no special requests by the city... There are a few low key guard jobs. They pay fairly well, best one you can see is a logging company that wants some muscle to protect a team surveying a new swath of trees for logging. Area's a bit of a distance from Guanan in the hills. Expected threats are non-magical forest animals, the biggest of which are brown bears, and some packs of squirrel monsters that can use some wind magic.
Aside from the logging company survey...
Several caravans, almost all of which are heading west instead of east, and the rest south or only partway to the capital.
A couple longer term guard gigs, mostly for villages that could use some extra muscle while the wildlife is active.
One for escorting a biologist while they investigate animal populations in the region. Pay's even better, but the dangers are greater; brown bears again for nonmagical, but it warns of wolf beasts, and the primary objective is flocks of wind bird monsters. Seems like they're focusing on the more magical variety of animals.
Other one is fairly basic, a VIP wants an escort around the city for a week. Pay is lower, but you get paid per day and the span makes it balance out. There's a memo attached to it too... 'Unreputable need not apply'. It would probably be low risk at least, Gunan seems to have good public safety.
"VIP escort screams 'we're going to be attacked by assassins or people otherwise skilld at killing other people', which I'm not particularly trained to handle.
With how much trouble we had with the birds on the way here while having an advantageous defensive position and sufficient warning ahead of the attack, I think I want to avoid the biologist escort and their monster bird research.
Caravan escort might be the safest monster-wise, but the chance of bandits, people specifically geared to fight other people, doesn't sound appealing...
Not really a fan of any of these at the moment. We're injured, under-equipped, and dealing with a lot of unknown variables."
