Karina: "Like, how I got you and Leon down to the edge of the city. That magic."

She cocks her head and gives you a smirk.
Karina: "You thought you managed to stumble from the guild to the edge of town, really drunk, and somehow run right into me?"

Karina: "Ohhh. Oh.
Nope! That was Frederic who did that."

Frederic: "Not noticing the 6 foot something half armored bodyguard following you might've been from you being drunk.
Though I am very sneaky.

Food's on the way, kebabs tonight. We'll be under the canopy tomorrow, and probably get to Root Town by nightfall.
Bit excited to see it up close at night again."

Frederic: "Using the rest of the fresh pork and beef in the icebox, since we can stock back up tomorrow.
Some mixed veggies on them too, including a couple peppers from Kharest."

Karina: "Aww, really? I don't like peppers..."
Frederic: "There's a few without, don't fret.

Hmm. Gram, you ever tried magic food before? Like, stuff grown or raised in a domain? The stuff in the tree domains is similar."

Frederic: "Well the taste is ordinary, but prepared right it's... mmm, hard to describe. Like ah, I suppose it's like, tasting with your soul?
A sense of contentment in your magic half when you swallow a mouthful of it, that regular food doesn't give.
Hm. Actually, you're a mage, I wonder if you guys get that. Willers do, but eating magic food's more important for us than you guys."

You remember this from lectures. Will users have to keep eating food rich in magic, or stay in areas with high ambient magic like the domains, in order to maintain their strength. Without it, there just isn't enough magic in the air to sustain their body at full magic density.

Frederic: "Guess we'll find out soon, it'll be hard to find any that isn't magical in here.
Oh! I just got a great idea, how do you feel about hunting? For food, not for dangerous things."

You took a semester of it, Wilderness Provisions!
It mostly focused on trapping, tracking, and fishing rather than directly confronting animals. Too much variety between magic uses to make a consistent instruction for that. Mages would be kind of out in the cold, while willers could pretty much just chase a deer down and wrestle it to the ground.
You know basic traps and snares, how to set and bait a trap, how to use a fishing line and net, that sort of thing.
It also had a broad primer on animal behavior, like prey vs predators, and edible plant identification. There's way too much variety across the sky to get into specifics in just one class, so they stuck with broad, high level theory and rules.

"Seems like a bit of work to get food.

Went on a few of my bouts into the wilderness to sharpen my skills. Looked for small animal trails in the morning and set up snares, prepped camp and messed around for few hours, come back later in the day and the snares caught enough rabbits to last the week."

Frederic: "Was sort of a tradition back during my time with the Belus knights. 'You hunt what you eat, you eat what you hunt'. Only really applied during times in domains, and they didn't let anyone starve, but was a great way to keep us sharp. Good memories of three of us chasing down a hog like a pack of wolves.
Thought, most of us then were willers, and now it's kind of the opposite.

Still, a good chance to get into the wilderness swing of things. It's an important skillset if you're gonna be an adventurer. Out in the domains there's a lot more space between pockets of civilization, and a lot more work off the main roads.
We can probably find some commissions with the Root Town authorities and get paid while we're out there too.

It'd also be a good way to stay on the down-low while Karina's father's search people pass through."

Karina: "Ah... right, that..."
