"Call it."

Leon: "Tails."
You flip the drach, and let it fall to the ground. It lands in front of you, face up. Heads.
Leon: "Tch."

Karina: "Alright, watch decided! Now more importantly, what's for dinner!"

~~~
The sun has set, everyone has settled in for the night about a half hour ago. You're tending the fire, keeping it low but steady. Karina watches out into the darkness, with the help of the moonlight. You're glad that the sky cooperated today too, having visibility all over makes keeping watch much simpler.
Karina: "Um. Hey Gram? I gotta, um, relieve myself. Can you watch for a second?"
"Hm? Watch what now?"
She stares back at you for a moment, then her face breaks into a look of horror.
Karina: "The forest! Watch for danger, without me! Not me! Don't watch me! I meant the forest! Jeez!"
Without waiting for a response, she turns and hurries into the grove behind the camp.
You break out of your Intense Concentration again, realizing that it's been a few minutes and she's still gone relieving herself.
...do, you hear talking from inside the trees, where Karina went?
"Karina, I hear voices! Are you alright!?"
A small girlish shriek, and the sound of rapidly rustling leaves.
Karina: "Yes I'm fine! That, heck, that was just me! I-I have to talk to myself, when I go! Stay over there please!"
You keep waiting, and nothing else suspicious happens. Just the sound of insects and an owl.
A few minutes later she returns, with a red face and a powerful pout.
Karina: "Hmph. We're in the woods, the only perverts peeking on me would be ones we brought with us... can't believe i had to say that..."
The rest of your watch goes uneventfully. Karina glowers at you for a bit, but loses the energy for it and helps keep watch. A few times some rustling leaves from the outside snap you to attention, but it's always just the squirrels from the grove going about their business.
After a couple hours, you wake Fred and Leon and trade off shifts.
~~~

The next day is spent hiking back down the trail to the carriage that brought you out here. Everyone boards and relaxes a bit, happy to be able to ride along after the hike.
You spend some time watching the landscape go by again, the wide masses of land and trees still utterly foreign to you.

Frederic: "So. A proper request as an Adventurer. How's it stack up to your classes, Gram?"

"Classes made 'em seem a lot more extravagant, but I already knew what to expect, with everything my old man told me.

Might have the exciting or dangerous one here and there, but for the most part it's a job."

Frederic: "Long periods of mundanity punctuated with moments of life threatening excitement. Sounds right.
Those moments though, that's what you're truly paid for. Especially at the upper end, when you're one of the few that can handle them.

Your father was an adventurer too?"

Frederic: "Well, it's certainly not a surefire rule. Otherwise Karina would have a mind for commerce and court affairs."
Karina: "Those are boring anyway... Bunch of stuffy codgers putting on airs to impress each other for the sake of it."
Leon: "Trade's pretty important."
Karina: "Well, yeah, but it's boring too!"
Leon: "A lot of important stuff seems like it'd be boring."
Frederic: "Guard duty for instance. Same city wall, same stretch of land, same shift, same nothing happening for hours. The company you keep helps a lot."
