Post Auto Tunneler *Updated*
Tired of digging tunnels by hand? Shovels and diggers just not cutting it? Try the new Auto Tunneler!

This device allows the user to trace a tunnel they want dug before hand, and then sit back and watch it be dug before your eyes. Just be sure not to die before the tunnel is finished. Otherwise, the tunneler stops digging.

Tunnels are dug slowly, so be sure to protect your tunnel creator.

Update: Version 2
Thanks to zalo's advice, the Auto Tunneler now produces a lot less lag than before.
I also have updated the way the Auto Tunneler handles turns. They should new be a smoother rather than jagged.

Here is a before and after shot of a tunnel, so you have an idea of what the tunnels look like after they are dug.

Instructions:
Hold down the fire button and trace out the tunnel using the movement keys.
Release the fire button to start digging the tunnel.
Only one tunnel may be dug at a time, per player.
Supports up to 4 players digging tunnels at once.

I modeled the tunnel tracing portion of the script loosely off the path tracing for CaveCricket48's Electro Boomer. Credit goes to him for the original path tracing algorithm.

Remember to rate this for the contest :D

Damn. This is such an improvement over my previous attempts to dig for gold while not actually controlling the digger [setting waypoints underground near gold]. My only complaint is the game speed being affected, like you mentioned. Too bad nothing can be done about it but making the tunneler smaller. Also, where specifically would I rate your mod?

Best contest entry so far IMO. Very useful and easy to use. It's only disadvantage is sometimes-not-so-clean tunnel corners. Great work as always, thank you Kyred.

How the hells is anyone supposed to beat this? Kyred, you don't give your competition enough of a chance.

very very useful, 9/10, its polished, but buggy. once i had it dig to the edge of the screen and it said i coulden't dig, like it was already being used. best so far

EDIT: also in your gif it has a secret frame :-P

That's pretty cool. I give it 9/10. It's really useful, but it's lacking a mod icon (which always irks me for some reason) and there's the obvious problem of the lag it creates.
EDIT: Also, it would seem that your gif does indeed have a secret frame. Is that an older version with a wider beam?

Screw you. 8/10

You could've fixed the lag by 1. Checking for gold in a material check. 2. dig only the stuff that's not dirt.
Just to see if it's possible, I tried it myself, and it worked pretty well.
Image
Notice how it is a straight line except for the gold. No dirt or anything.
Sorry if it seems that I'm overly harsh on it, but it really is a pretty good mod in the technical excellence department (screw you, really).

EDIT: Gold actually stays regardless of if you do the material check or not.
You just dig like you normally would, and remove the MOPixels that don't hit MOs, and you're gold. Too bad it's too late >:) Bwahahahah

It looks cool, but I can't imagine when the hell I'm gonna ever use this thing. It's so slow and unsatisfying (except for when I'm collecting gold... who does that anymore?)

The one issue with that is what it does to gold. I actually quite like how it piles it. It may have been a decent trade-off, however.

I like this one the best so far.
The good things about it is that it piles up the gold for you, it's not overpowered, and it's a pretty decent burrower.

I mucked up using it, and now I'm so confused!

I fired once, and it just made a little glow dot. Read up how to use it, and then understood.
Then used the Rock Tunneller, and when it spawned and I moved it, it left the waypoints behind it... Then once it died through some kind of self-exploding madness, the auto-tunneller started.

It also activates when people touch it, not just terrain.

When you know how to use it, and use it well, it is amazing.
9/10

PS: Thought about making an offensive version? A slowly approaching wall of death.

10/10
its really nice, but the game does slow down a bit. My main concern is that it stops after a while, I want to be able to dig the entire map to nothing if I choose to.

What happens if you use it on a person or robot? Aaaaand what is that secret frame? I can see it, but only for a split second, and I have no way of changing that because I have no .gif editing software. I would say this is the best thing so far, but mainly because its so fancy and pretty to use.
