Post Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack- LEGO Mecha Tabletop Wargame
I haven't done CC stuff in ages and likely won't. But for those who love LEGOs (which I'm sure a lot of you do), a tabletop wargame using LEGO, Mechaton, is celebrating its 10th anniversary as Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack. I've recently gotten into it. It's a project that just got successfully (very) funded on Kickstarter. You can check the main page at Mobile Frame Zero.com, but the more frequented places are the Mobile Frame Zero flickr page and the Mobile Frame Hangar forums.

Basically, you build your own force of robots out of LEGO and battle them out on a tabletop.

Also, for those interested in seeing some of what I've done personally, my flickr photostream is here.

I am extremely interested in this, and have tons of Legos.
I just have to go through the trouble of taking them, disassembling all of them, rebuilding them as small robots..

Guh. I'll start soon.

The only problem is: Who am I going to play with?

I got a huge bin of legos, I could do this, but my peices are of all colors, so if I make a mech it will be a rainbow!

I don't have any Lego. All I have are Magnetix

Which were apparently recalled.

In moments like this I wish I didn't lose most of my pieces when I was a kid.

Now LEGO's are much more expensive than at that time.

When I used to play with Magnetix, I used to make some pretty interesting things.

Like those.

I wish I had some Lego though. I could make some mech like guys using magnetic stuff though.

Or magnetic Lego.

Hmmmm...

I'm going to the patent office, back in a hour.

Forgive me for my ignorance/insolence but why exactly would someone fund this?

Not that the tabletop game isn't good or anything (I too find this very interesting as well) , but what would a company gain by providing funds or would a more suitable word just be donation?

Once again, I'm only asking this out of personal curiosity and not of spite or anything.

it's not funded by companies

it's more like a private donation for this specific project, but with good things in it for you as bonuses

Bumping this because it's still my main creative outlet at the moment, and our small community (about as small as this one) is still growing. I definitely recommend a look if you or anyone you know is still into/interested in LEGO.

This project did get funded, quite successfully, and the rulebooks and kits for the Kickstarters are already coming out. My flickr page is still very active and you can see a lot of neat LEGO mech designs in the Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack group on Flickr.

The majority of the activity is on the Mobile Frame Hangar forums, however. We discuss everything from the rules to creations ranging from mechs to vehicles to terrain.

Dam I didn't even know this was here, I remember following the Kickstarter, didn't really have the money to donate at the time though
I still have lots of links to good mech designs and I have a folder full of design ideas
A PDF of the rulebook is available on the site for free in case anyone wants to check it out, though they still take donations and sell the irl book
