Making stabs in the dark on that one. Maybe something else will shed more light on it.
Claire DID say that Schals live in the forests around here. Not in high numbers, but if someone were crazy enough to capture some and start a breeding program, then harvest the cores and hook them up to looms... That might've been it. Then again, producing oodles of not just cloth, but quality HM cloth almost definitely would've gotten a mention in our research.

Hm. We should find a place of interest. A shell impact crater, a production center, a town hall maybe, a hospital. Somewhere where Things Happened. Hospital might have records from trying to treat the madness."

Oliver: "Company secret? Maybe they didn't want competitors gettin' a leg up on 'em."

Your team leaves the apartment and, with the help of Ingret, identify the various buildings around town.

Plenty of houses and apartments, a blacksmith, a machine shop, a taxidermist, a library, a hospital, a town hall, and various other shops.

Which do you check out first?

Your team heads to the hospital, the doors wide open.

The halls are dark, and everyone turns on the lights integrated into their suits.

At the very least, there's plenty of light streaming in from the windows of patient rooms and operating rooms, due to the lack of curtains.

As with the other buildings, a great number of bones are scattered around the floor.

Valerie: "I guess we search around for papers?"

What sort of plumbing fixtures does it have? Was lighting electrical, gas or (now consumed) magic-based? How decayed are the premises, other than the bones and not-cloth lying around? Are things in disarray, as if disturbed by a frenzied mob then left alone, or are there signs of the building being used afterwards?

The lighting appears to be electrical, with none of the switches working.

Most beds and operation tables are overturned, and there's a noticeable lack of medical tools. There don't appear to be any locked doors - some that could've been, such as utility closets and offices, are smashed through.

The few artifacts or trinkets that you can find are musty old leather wallets, purses, money, and identification documents.

Each room with its contents in disarray have a clipboard with papers describing the patient's condition. You collect every one you come across, and begin reading the various afflictions - throat obstruction, broken bones, severe lacerations, foreign object in rectum, object embedded in eye, missing leg, missing arm, heart complications, ruptured lungs, unstable mental condition. Quiet a severe series of patients.

Anything more about the unstable mental condition? Were any successfully treated for that?

There don't appear to be any successfully treatments for mental conditions - while the other injuries have notes on attempts of treatments after, there aren't any further notes after unstable mental conditions are written.

Searching around, you find a morgue in the basement level, but no bodies, just bones.

Leaving the hospital, you lead your team to the taxidermist.

~

It's a large two-story building, with the lower level's large front windows broken, letting you see the still-standing preserved bears, deer, and other assorted wildlife. On the top level appears to be a residential area, which has a separate stairway access beside the shop entrance.

You head into the shop with your team following behind and look around.

Due to the broken windows, there's some weather damage to some of the wood flooring and shelving near the front of the shop, but the rest of it is otherwise in fairly good condition. A few tools lie on the floor here and there, and some of the tables are pushed over or a stuffed animal knocked down, but nothing severe.

As you walk around, you do notice a rather curious spot of damage on the wall. Several holes with cracks around the rims in a group about the size of a dinner plate.

Valerie: "Looks like buckshot."

She crouches down to the ground, fingers carefully sifting through the dark dusty floor. Picking something up, she holds it under her light for you to see - a small, flat white fragment, no bigger than a corn kernel.

Valerie: "Bone fragment."

Valerie looks around, brushing the floor and walls as her light sweeps over them. Under close scrutiny, you can make out faint dark spots in the wood here and there.

Valerie: "I can see faint blood stains, guessing no major blood vessels were hit. A good number of the pellets are in the wall, so a glancing shot at best."
