Post Initialization Creator
Upon seeing a Topic called Batch Files in the Offtopic section of the Forum, I got interested in the long lost format of file. So, I learned how to harness it's powers and create magnificent pieces of work.

Enough of the colorful vocabulary; to get straight to the point, I am very good at making batch files and am planning to make one that will write an initialization file for you. All it will do is ask you questions such as "What will be the name of your grenade?" you type in the InstanceName and it writes it to the file for you AND then converts it from a text document to an initialization file. Of course, I don't want it to be in vain, so I ask the public, should I continue to create this?

Progress:
Explosive ---- 100%
Weapon ------ 100%
Actor ---------- 0%
Ammo --------- 0%
Material ------ 0%
Shield --------- 0%
Dropship ----- 0%
Scene --------- 0%

My Initialization File Creator is finally finished! At least the explosive and gun part is. Download it now!

Credits:
Purple - Thanks for proofing it for me. You did well!

Please contact me with any questions you might have and make sure to comment!

Woot first vote. I voted Yes because eventually this could evolve into a full fledged mod making program that does all the work for you. Or at least a basic mod maker. You would probably still have to f**k with the code to do anything truely unique.

It will only craete the base. It's not finished but when it's done it will fill EVERYTHING in THE FIRST TIME. After that you can edit it. It's just a more organized way of creating a base mod. No searching :grin:

I'm going to start with a grenade first because they are often easier. Then I will move to gun, then probably actors. This takes quite awhile so it might not be out for a couple days or even a week. Think about it; I've got to type about 9 lines of code for every line in the initialization file!

Example:
Defining the InstanceName of a grenade takes 9 lines of code! But it will be worth it!

I don't doubt it will be worth it. I'll download and give it a try when it's done.

I dunno, it seems like a lot of work when manually editing the files will do for many people. If you do finish it though, be sure to include tips that explain each property and give examples/suggestions. (Example: a newbie modder won't have a clue what "rest threshold" is.) In that case it would cater well to your target audience.

It might not help people at all, but this is just helps to organize everything you need. Basically, no searching. All you have to do is fill in a couple blanks and this program will write EVERYTHING for you.

Example:
In part of it, it will ask you to type the directory of the sprite; you type "Folder.rte\Pics\File.bmp" and the program types...
Code:
    SpriteFile = ContentFile
      FilePath = Folder.rte\Pics\File.bmp

I plan on adding descriptions and reccommendations to certain things. I majorly focus on reccommending values because if you are a noob modder, you either need to leave it alone, experiment with it a little, or check out one of the guides on here. I'm pretty sure one of them lists MOST of the attributes.

This is crazy...I never thought about doing anything like this. But then again, I would start it, and announce it, and get half way through it, and forget about it. =/
