If the human population is eradicated by the swine flu, so be it.
It'll make the universe a more peaceful place for other intelligent life that may or may not exist.

That site crashed firefox for me 3 times in a row, before finally working.

That site was started YESTERDAY

It refers to a guy in pittsburg Bio-med, and rather than linking to pittsburg bio-med, it links to his private google page, here

when it should have linked here

It should have also sited something like the CDC for where the information is DIRECTLY COMING FROM,

It should have cited this and this.

Also any legitimate report would NOT look like it was made by a highschool kid, and wouldn't need advertisment or sponsorship of ANY kind as it would be PAID FOR by the CDC, or even directly hosted AT CDC.gov

I don't buy it, or trust that map.

However in other news, as of 1PM ET, the CDC confirms 40, not 20 infectees within the United states alone, in 5 different states, including 1 case in my own.

the World Health Organization states

Quote:
27 April 2009 -- The current situation regarding the outbreak of swine influenza A(H1N1) is evolving rapidly. As of 27 April 2009, the United States Government has reported 40 laboratory confirmed human cases of swine influenza A(H1N1), with no deaths. Mexico has reported 26 confirmed human cases of infection with the same virus, including seven deaths. Canada has reported six cases, with no deaths, while Spain has reported one case, with no deaths.

Further information on the situation will be available on the WHO website on a regular basis.

As far as the WORLD health organization is concerned it appears to be isolated to north america.

Unless someone Living outside of north america confirms otherwise, a documented and lab verified case outside of it, I will not consider this a pandemic, OR believe a damn thing on 'pigfluemap.com'.

at least this gave me something to do.

----EDIT

the CDC now has this to say

i am scared that illegal immigrants from mexico with the disease (knowing or not knowing they have it) will come in and spread it even more. i have a strange feeling that the swine flu is a version of chemical warfare released by the Taliban or Al-Qaeda or other terrorist groups.

That is the most RETARDED thing I have EVER heard in my LIFE! This is worse than when a kid in my english class was saying that the Soviet union was responsible for 9/11!
forgot my endquote lol

This one is rather more worrying than the other pandemic scares, largely because this one has actually spread around the world a bit.

Now the fatality rate is fairly low, but it's still a lot of people if this spreads as readily as regular flu.

So old people and children will die, leaving the rest of us to feel like clowns for surviving.

Yes. Although stronger, smarter, and more evolved clowns.

The only thing I see coming of all of this scare is a bunch of ignorant red-necks killing mexicans because they don't want to get sick. Have we learned NOTHING from babylon 5?!

...What?

Anyways, the way i see it is this:
People get infected, maybe 100-200 die.
But what are 100-200 people out of the... how many billions of people do we have again?

at this rate it will be less than 100 even getting sick, let alone die. so far, its the same as regular flu.

So you have the flu, except the media decided to put "swine" in front of "flu" because it seems to be related to pork. Yeeaahhhhhhh that's why I don't think it's a big deal at all.

it actually has nothing to do with eating pork and the CDC keeps getting asked that.

also apparently +1000 people in mexico are DEAD because of swine flu. thats like holy crap numbers right there... outside of mexico there have been like 0 deaths and 8 serious cases or some such crap... but.... whatever...

It is CURRENTLY Hype.... now when the number of infectees double or tripple overnight THEN I'll say its serious.

-edit

given that whitty and I are the only ones talking, and he's stopped,
I'm assuming everyone's watching B5?

The response? I think the governmental response isn't too ridiculous.
The media coverage? That's blown out of proportion, but then again, it's part of their job description.
I'd be alot less pissed off if certain newspapers and news programs bothered to do the research before doing a story...

Yeah... but this whole ordeal got me to start playing Pandemic 2... Someone posted it on /flash/ and I have to say, I made a virus that spread to every country except Madagascar and Japan in 12 days, And infected 100% of every populous (except Japan and Madagascar) by day 28. there is 1 running hospital, and its in japan. Time to vaccine started at 1700+ days. the us population is 5000, greenland and newzealand have pop 0, granted i'm on day 239....

Is that wrong to play a game about creating a disaster because simmillar real events are actually happening? like playing resident evil DURING a zombie invasion?

It's my response, and given that in game within 15 days of being noticed it was a pandemic, and right now at being noticed we're on like day 3 for swine flu? by day 3 I only had like 29 infectees (total), swine-flu has 40+ outside of mexico, and +2K infected in mexico.

My fake videogame virus that has wiped out all but japan and madagascar (damn ferrits and nerv).

Swine flu has had an absurdly good start (and by good i mean dangerous and likely to kill people)

If not for the fact that its just the flu which I've had the flu like 6 times, its nothing, And the Entire body of a virus will not spontaniously develope liver failure, heart failure and encephalitis as symptoms all at the same time, so there's no way in hell it will become a pandemic. Or at least not a pandemic in terms of "omfg we're all going to die!"

At most it could be a pandemic as "There is not a soul alive who does not have the sniffles, we must find a cure before our noses dehydrate us over the course of 5 years, not that infection lasts that long"
