Post Re: Windows 7 reboot loop
How many times i have to say it? I DID TRY INSTALLING BOTH WINDOWS 7 AND VISTA ON 2 DIFFERENT HARD DRIVES!!!

Are you ♥♥♥♥ reading my posts at all?

Vista failed at the end of the install, so when trying to start it reboots in the middle of the starting process.

Didn't even get to the formatting with Windows 7 setup.

7 reboots when it has been running for 1-3 minutes.

I'm reading yours, it's you who isn't doing the reading.

Be as specific as possible. When exactly are the install procedures messing up?

Instead of using WV/W7, try something else. WXP or a Linux distribution is a good start.

SPEAKING of operating systems, what medium are you using the install? Optical? Flash? Network? It is possible that your installation media is corrupt.

If you are installing from CD/DVD, consider trying to install from a USB device (if you have one). YMMV on BIOS support for this.

THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, it's unlike that two operating systems would fail. On the other hand, Vista and 7 are very similar under the hood, ESPECIALLY with the installation framework. I re-iterate, try installing a new operating system to verify hardware fault (not to use in the future).

Use something that wasn't part of Longhorn.

And by the way THERE IS NO REASON TO TALK IN ALL CAPS BRO I AM JUST TRYING TO HELP WHY ARE YOU FREAKING OUT HOLY BALLS

Sorry, i forgot to mention that when i tried to boot from Ubuntu CD it just rebooted.

The installation fails at Copying Files/Expanding Files/Installing Features/Completing Installation.

It simply just reboots. No Blue Screens of Death, nothing. Not even a error message or anything. It just reboots. Like you would have pressed reset.

I install it from a DVD.

So, in English the start would be: Serial ATA (also SATA, S-ATA or Sarja-ATA) bla bla bla.

Post Re: Windows 7 reboot loop
I am trying to think of other things besides the motherboard that could be causing this fault, but I am at a bit of a loss.

Is this OEM (ie: branded with a manufacturers label) or custom? If its OEM, look into warranty replacement.

I am assuming that since you are posting here, it is likely you don't have an OEM machine, so my next best guess would be to try for some support at hardware level from your motherboard supplier. If it is still under warranty (several makes have one year warranties) consider filing a support ticket with the board manufacturer.

At the least, they will have a most more experienced (or more detailed troubleshooting steps, for those call centers based in India) customer and technical support resources.

Good luck. : ]. Post if anything else develops.

Yeah, it isn't an OEM. Took the parts to the place where we bought it and now they are testing what's wrong.

Thanks for all the replies!

Look on the bright side: Even if it is a faulty motherboard, you went through all the right troubleshooting steps! :]

Another friend of a friend had had a similar issue, by the by, and said that his particular error was caused by an improperly seated CPU fan. The overheat caused the board to terminate instruction (hence, the restart).

Something else to check that I hadn't thought of.

Okay, will test that if they can't figure out what's broken.

Thanks!

I don't need to read the whole thread for this, I've heard it before, HOWEVER it only applies if you have an HP

If your computer, or any part of your computer, is an HP, And your processor is an AMD, of any kind, that is your problem, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows XP SP 3 all cause this issue, and it is not microsofts fault, nor is it yours.

HP has software that overrides your hardware profile and tells your computer that that nifty AMD is actually a pentium (which it's not). because of this there are some *minor* hardware incompatabilities, which with the content thats in XP SP3 and subsequent versions of windows, causes windows to not load properly, triggering the reboot.

you need to either go into safe mode (if you can) or get access to a second computer, setting your C: Drive as a slave to a different machine so that you can change your Hardware profile, and remove the HP software (if any).

for your tech support I recommend however that you go someplace like CNet, or some other geek-dominant website. you know, a website that focuses on tech support.

Miles, he just said that he got a new motherboard and that fixed it. Pretty clearly that was the problem.

er.... well that does change what the processor is, now doesn't it. although he didn't need a new motherboard, just to change a hardware configuration on the control panel. but whatever, now he can have a dos-box or a linux/unix/ubuntu machine.

Heh. Heheheheheh.

My ASUS motherboard was broken. So, they sent me an exact copy of the motherboard, except that it wasn't broken.

And we just had to put in all the not-broken parts, and tada. It works.

And now i have a Windows 7 machine.

Oh, i hate my cousins keyboard.
